A question about unlocking, updating and preserving baseband.
I'm on 3GS, 3.1.3, on 05.12.01.
So, if you want to unlock, you:
- Download iOS 4.3.3 for 3GS.
- Install a program named Snowbreeze.
- Let Snowbreeze hack the OS so that the update doesn't do anything with the baseband.
- Install the OS with shift restore in iTunes.
- Install ultrasn0w and restart.
- Done.
- Now you can use whatever SIM you want and you can have everything that OS4 offers.
Is that right? Does the OS automatically jump over the emergency calls section so that I can download ultrasn0w? Sorry if this has been asked or something, really, but my dad has really scared me, as he has told me that updating/restoring an unlocked iPhone in any way will lock it and render it unusable, unless you have the original SIM or something. I don't have the original SIM, as this phone was bought second hand in a store in Paris, already jailbroken and with ultrasn0w. I don't know my iBoot version thing.
I don't have any SHSH's installed, as Cydia says that it is "pending".

Sounds about right. If you want to get past the emergency call screen without a original sim you need to choos to activate the custom firmware when you are making it with snowbreeze. Just make sure to NEVER restore to a regular 4.1-4.3.3 firmware or you will lose your unlock.

That is a older tutorial for snowbreeze but the basic steps are the same. Just make sure to use the latest snowbreeze with the 4.3.3 firmware.
