Your question doesn't really make sense. You don't activate the sim, you activate the phone, if it is factory unlocked just put the sim in the phone and connect it to itunes

I tried inserting a new sim but the connect to itunes screen came up which disappeared after i synced with my computer. The sim card is accepted after i sync the phone with itunes. Is there any way around that without the need of a computer

Activating the phone should only happen one time. Unless you restore the phone, you don't have to do it again.

Too my knowledge, unlocked phone means insert any GSM sim and it should work, the need to sync with itunes for every new sim I get seems weird.

I have read of others in this situation where a sync is necessary after each sim swap. Anecdotally, a restore of the phone should correct the issue. (it appears to happen with phones that were issued their NCK to unlock after the initial activation of the phone)

Just curious why you keep getting new SIM cards.

Annie: I think he is referring to changing SIMs between carriers, not the installation of replacements from his primary carrier

Hm. Well clearly that was hard to derive from those statements. Anyhow, it shouldn't be requiring activation every time a different SIM is inserted. I believe you're correct in saying that a restore is probably necessary.
