sim card not supported after I restored iPhone
Please help.
3G iPhone died. I restored it and it now has updated software. It says my sim card that has worked for a year is not supported. Is that because of the updated software or just some glitch? What can I do?

Are you on official carrier or did you rely on an unlock

I'm not quite sure of the technical terms, but,,
I have a normail carrier from which I bought the card and pay for usage every month. The iPhone came from the US and is unblocked to use in Brasil. Can I offer any other info?

I'm not understanding fully. I'm gonna guess you're saying it is an unlocked US iPhone and you use a carrier from Brasil? So if it is a US phone I'm going to guess it was software unlocked. So you must be on firmware 4.2.1, you can get past that emergency call screen with redsn0w 0.9.6rc12. Just jailbreak it with that.
You probably lost your unlock that's why your SIM is unsupported. So you'd need to check to see if you can downgrade your baseband to unlock it again. If you can't downgrade the baseband, you'll have to upgrade it which will break your GPS. That's something you have to consider if downgrading the baseband to unlock isn't possible. First jailbreak it, then you can check in Cydia with Fuzzyband to see if you can downgrade the baseband.

Redsn0w is free. Just google for the version I said up there, and you should be able to find a copy to download.

Thanks very much for your help, it seems to be too much for me. I've googled and can't find it for free and now can't find it at all. I really appreciate your time.

redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc8.zip
There's rc8 for Mac
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Here's rc8 for Windows.
Seems like I found rc8 better than I could rc12. Rc8 will work fine.

Didn't you need to jailbreak and unlock it?

yes, that is exactly what i need to do. took it to the local carrier for a new sim card. that didn't help. then to a place that helped with my old htc. they took the back off and said they couldn't help. so I went home. we were leaving for Rio so I didn't have time to follow up with you any more till just now. since we got to Rio my husband's 4g has gone into that awful hold mold of the white spinning pinwheel.. we can't catch a break! my phone is still in the room, I'll go get it and see what we do next. thanks very much.

Ok well first off there are two ways to unlock an updated iPhone 3G. One of the methods only work for some iPhone 3G devices.
We want to use that method if possible to avoid breaking the GPS, but if your iPhone 3G isn't one of the lucky ones, you'll have to think about whether you are ok with unlocking but possibly breaking the GPS.
So, download f0recast and plug your iPhone in. Then tell me what bootloader it has (it's either 5.8, 5.9, or 6.4)
