Old iPhone 3g

I found my old iPhone 3G lying in my drawer. The thing is that I don't know the unlock code. I upgraded to my iPhone 4. I don't know the version number. It's been a while. Is there a way to actually use it again? My niece needs a phone and I want to give her this for her birthday coming up.

Restore it. If it's jailbroken there's a way to delete all the saved passwords with an ssh tool somewhere here on MMI.

plug in usb cord to device
then hold power button+sleep button together for 10 seconds
then release power button but keep holding home button till itunes recognizes device
then hit restore in itunes

I haven't done this in a while. Do I use the Shift + Click on restore and I select the firmware?

if your wanting to go to 3.1.3 then yes but if your going to anything above that youll need shsh blobs.

Mhm. I don't even know what version my iphone is. My brother probably did some stuff on it and now he's gone. I don't even know the unlock code. I tried to Hold Power + Home and restore using Shift + Click. I grabbed the 3.1.3 and 4.2.1 file. Both didn't work. =[ I don't know what to do.

when itunes recognized it was the screen black a.k.a dfu mode?

and if so what happened when you restored to 3.1.3?

Yeah, iTunes recognized it. I don't get any error number.

It just says Error. This firmware isn't compatible with your phone.

I got 3194 error then the 1604 error. Trying to install the 3.1.3 firmware.

download tiny umbrella (google it)
open tiny umbrella
click on your device in the left
then hit save shsh
tell me what ios versions show up after its done.

just turn device back on as well.

Should the phone be in DFU mode? When in DFU mode the Installed Firmware Version is blank. When it's on normally, nothing shows up on devices.

damn could be the passcode lock.

if you dont need an unlock just place it in dfu mode and restore to 4.3.3.
