No problem, glad I could help.

I remembered now.
Not even with a Gevey sim I can unlock it?
05-08-2011, 08:44 AM #24
Well Gevey is for iPhone 4 and I haven't heard of anyone trying it in a 3GS with an adaptor or something. They have one for 3GS, but it only works up to fw 3.1.3 supposedly.
You could unlock with the iPad baseband method but your GPS will cease to work properly and you will only be able to update your fw through custom ipsws, so since you should be able to factory unlock it soon, I don't think it'd be worth it. However it's up to you. If you don't use GPS at all, it might be an option for you. Just remember, there's no way back from that baseband as of now and there might never be a way back. So decide carefully.

and there is battery issues with the iPad baseband

Good to know. I think I wont do it.
But I had another idea.
Can I change my iPhone 3GS IMEI?
I have a friend in Switzerland with an iPhone 3GS. There all iPhones are factory unlocked.
If I get his IMEI and put it into mine, will it work?
Would it be a problem having two iPhones with the same IMEI?
They would be in different carriers all the time and also 2 different countries.
Anyone has any idea about this? Is it possible? Would it work?

Its illegal to change the IMEI number

Alright. It was just a though...
Then I guess I will wait until the end of July and then try the official unlock by the carrier.

Hopefully it'll all work out.

I also found out a webpage called allgsmunlock and they advertise that they unlock the IMEI on the iPhone, permanently.
Have you heard something about these guys? Does it really work?
Wouldn't that mean that they have direct access to Apple servers?
05-08-2011, 03:35 PM #32
Nope nothing like that works right now

Just to clarify, unauthorized IMEI unlocks were possible a few weeks back but not anymore. Any websites still advertising them just haven't update their site or are scam, steer clear of them.
