If I update software can I unlock?

i have 3GS, on the following:

Version 4.0.1 (8A306)
Modem Firmware 05.13.04

It is unlocked now, however if I was to update to new Apple 4.3.1 will I be able to unlock? And will I lose GPS?

You will need to use a custom firmware to preserve your 5.13.04 baseband so you can keep your unlock.

Updating to 4.3.2 will not break your GPS. if you preserve your baseband (and DON'T update it) with a custom firmware, you dont have to worry about updating the baseband which will break GPS.

Create a custom 4.3.2 firmware with Sn0wbreeze and use that to restore with in iTunes.

Bugger think I've have issues with this.
Downloaded and used Snowbreeze 2.6.1 to crate custom firmware as above, however my sim now is no longer recognised and both phone and iTunes will not let me go anyfurther.
Phones says connect to iTunes and is lock to emergancey calls only, iTunes says sim not supported.

Either way I'm stuck with a paper weight Any ideas?
