Basic iPhone 3G Unlock Question

Really dumb question, but that's my name.

Am I correct in that you can unlock any iPhone 3G? No matter what the firmware is you can update to 4.2.1 which puts 06.15.00 on it which ultrasn0w can handle.

Also, what is considered best firmware for iPhone 3G? 3.1.2 probably runs faster and drains batter less, but not all apps work with it so is 4.2.1 better.

You pretty much nailed it and its really up to u if you want either new apps or a smoother running ios

Id go with 3.1.3 or stay where you are. otherwise you've got it all right

4.2.1 wont put the 6.15 baseband on there. it will actually install 5.15.04 which is not unlockable unless you use redsnow after that to update to 6.15. If you are still on 3.1.2 then you should still have an unlockable baseband. Do not restore to a regular 4.2.1 if you do want to go to that firmware. Use a custom 4.2.1 firmware made with pwnage tool or snowbreeze and restore to that to preserve your baseband.

3.1.2/3.1.3 does run better on iPhone 3G though.

Hello all, does anyone know the best way I can use my jailbroken phone as a phone? I thought I could just use skype but I need to be connected to a network to do this, my answer to that was to buy the mywi 4.0 app so when I was not connected to my home network I could create a hotspot but that doesnt seem to work, any one have suggestions? I have a 16 gb, 3g, 4.2.1, 05.15.04.
I was thinking of getting a phone book sim but Im not sure if that would help, I also tried looking at cydia carriers but I havent had any sucess with any of them, does anyone have any sources with carriers that I can try?
