Regarding Iphone 3g
Hello all, I am a bit confused as to what firmwares i can jb/unlock while using my iphone 3g. I am currently using firmware version 3.0, Modem Firmware version 04.26.08, currently both jailbroken and unlocked. I was wondering what i would be able to upgrade to, while still being able to both jailbreak and unlock my iphone to use with t-mobile. If anyone could link me to a guide or tell me what i should be using as well, it would be greatly appreciated; thank you in advance!

you can go up to 4.2.1 and use snowbreeze to create the custom ipsw so you don't upgrade the modem firmware.

Thank you! It has been a while since i have done this; not familiar with snowbreeze. What steps exactly would i need to take in order to jb/unlock? Snowbreeze is used for what exactly?
Also with this custom ipsw, i would continue to using my current modem firmware; would i have any issues with my phone whatsoever, for example with wireless, phone connectivity?
I forgot to mention, i am using a pc; not a mac.Last edited by Su593ct; 04-19-2011 at 03:50 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

snowbreeze is used to create a custom IOS that you use iTunes to upgade to without upgrading the baseband.
Follow the instructions included with snowbreeze.
Then after it is done and phone is restored, open cydia on your phone (make sure you have data connection, wifi or 3G), and install ultrasn0w. The phone will reboot after and you should be unlocked.

Snowbreeze is archived by firmware correct? So i would need version 2.2.1 for my 3g running at 4.2.1?
Alright i downloaded snowbreeze, loaded the 4.2.1 ipsw and then i was taken to a menu where i choose from: baseband protection, simple and expert. I would guess that i need to press baseband protection; however on the bottom, the detailed description states it is not a jailbreak, confused as to the meaning of that? If i continue through all the steps, my baseband will remain the same and my phone should be jailbroken and contain cydia correct?Last edited by Su593ct; 04-19-2011 at 05:22 PM. Go to expert, click on General, and then continue through. If you don't have an official carrier sim to activate the phone with, you'll need to choose the option to activate the phone. Go all the way through, and you'll end up back at the screen where you can select "Build IPSW". click on that, then click next to build it. You can choose to play pacman if you like. Once it is done, it will walk you through the steps on how to put it in DFU mode.
It will jailbreak + preserve your baseband with those steps.

Alright got it, thanks. One more thing; if anything does go wrong, is there any way to return to my current firmware. I would just like a back up in case something does go wrong. Thanks a lot of the help thus far.

Unless you have SHSH's saved, you can't go backwards. Download and run Tiny Umbrella. With your iphone connected, click on save SHSH and see what versions it can save for.
