Iphone 2G activation

Hello , I got my relative's old Iphone 2g , he somehow managed to screw it up before giving it to me . he master reset it thanks to which the phone got stuck in boot . I put the Iphone into recovery , and installed the newest firmware from Itunes due to which the phone is working again. but its its not gettin activated ! with the sim I use , I m getting signal and calls and texts and all , so I think it does not need to be unlocked . so could someone point out what I got to do to activate and may be in the process jailbreak it as well . Any links / guides for doing this will be greatly be appreciated .

Use redsnow 0.9.4 on it. You will need to point redsnow to a 3.1.2 firmware file.

Can you give a specific link for this ? After the jailbreak/unlock , the iphone is automatically activated without the itunes ?

You have not restored it properly,
Once it got restored properly, reboot it, then use the sim, it will work out...

Are you sure that i have to just restore it once more ? I am receiving calls , getting texts and getting sim providers signal . Only thing is that it is not getting activated even when connected to itunes

Thats only if you are on official carrier, which it does not sound like you are.
