When using SAM where does it save the Backup Activation? or how does it work exactly
04-17-2011, 10:06 PM #242
SAM saves the activation on sbingner's server. It then calls it from the server when you want to restore.
I'd like it more if I could save that file locally. I HATE relying on other people's servers.I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. My iPhones run on the following SIMs/networks: AT&T, GoPhone, H2O, O2, SimpleMobile, T-Mobile and Verizon.

There's a directory on the phone called
Maybe it's kept in there as well.

UDID is retrieved within iTunes clicking on Serial number of the device.
Hope this helps.
PS : future release may allow to save these datas during an itunes sync...

Awesome, all we have to do is dump that file back into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/activation_records, reboot and should be good to go should the need arise.I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. 04-18-2011, 06:06 AM #247This apparently doesnt work with phones that have been jailbroken with sn0wbreeze or has a custom firmware with hacktivation! Please make sure your iPhone has factory firmware installed before you submit your imei!
And does anybody has experience with this method in combination with custom firmware?

I have an iphone 4 with custom firmware 4.3.1 and bb 02.10.04 AT&T (including AT&T sim for activation).
I should install SAM and be sure Hacktivation is 'off'. And then request for a unlock with wirelessfreedom (after payment off course). And then it should work??
I also could update with official firmware, but I would rather keep my older BB in case the phone would be locked again in future (you'll never know what happens ).
Sry for asking, but I want to be sure before using this rather expensive solution.

Maybe Apple figured it out, or else they shut down the database until they figure it out.

Well that facebook link doesn't mean anything to me. Never heard of these people. Just another guy with an iphone blog, hardly a reputable source of information.
Negri is also stating temporarily discontinued but with no information.
I was playing around with sam today.. Yesterday I got a wildcard_activation.plist file which was encrypted. Today I downloaded the file for the same UDID and got an unecrypted file called Backup.plist. It is very different in content form the wildcard file. What's up with this?
