Can a SIM w/ no data plan be used in iPhone 3G?

Ok here is the story, I have a old iPhone 3G that i'm not using anymore. I have a crappy LG phone as a second line in my family plan. Can I use SIM out of LG phone in the iPhone and not get charged data use by shutting off the 3G/push features and just use wifi from home.

If you are on AT&T, and you put the SIM into the iPhone, they will force you to take a data plan.

I solely relied on wifi on my 3gs and 2g. On t-moblie I switched out from my Samsung which had a pos (5 or 10 dollar) data plan which I cancelled. Tossed my sim card into the unlocked iphone and off I was. No data what so ever.

Yes you can. I have my moms set up that way. I used safari to visit this site - install the fake apn that blocks data (Not the custom one). This way AT&T won't detect you & charge you a data plan

I have a prepaid att account. Called att they unlocked the sim, then put it in a iPhone. No data required.
