I am a soldier in germany. I've got a 4 and jailbroke it since 4.0.1 now at 4.3.1. It works fine, don't want to unlock it.

A few days ago I got my bosses phone to upgrade to at least 4.2.1so he could have tethering.

He was at 4.0.1 unlocked at 1.59.0 baseband

We did not know if it was factory unlocked, the person he got it from implied it was. stupid me.

SO I get a half day to upgreade his phone. I go on my Itunes and redmondpie.com and download 4.0.1 and restore the phone to that. Throw my Tmo Germany sim in and it works fine.

So ify about whether it's factory unlocked I use tiny umbrella to upgrade to 4.2.1 at 1.59 baseband.

So I restore and get the 1013 or whatever error.

works right...well had to do the fix recovery... from here i go into itunes and it says sim not recognized.

Redo the whole process...shsh still saved down to 4.2.1 and 4.3 with 1.59 baseband on tiny umbrella.

now the phone custom name is gone, the phone is pretty much blank and needs carrier restore. so... I am stuck at the activation screen with a AT&T locked phone (found about AT&T later).

so used redsnow and at least gave my boss back a ipod touch with iphone capability on wifi...
