Is Sticky "[How to] check if you can unlock" up to date?
Was wondering if the baseband info in the sticky was still valid. I'd like to get a 3GS and run it on T-Mobile, but all them I find for sale use 5.14.02, 5.15.04, or 5.16.01, and I'd like the GPS to work so no 16.15.00 for me. I was wondering if another workaround had been found or was in the pipeline.

Umm yes it is up to date. Why not check to see when it was last edited or see what people say. Anyway you want the iPad baseband. This breaks GPS now before I tell you how to do it you need to understand you will not be able to use any true GPS apps like TomTom, etc.

I'm asking because I'm confused by the Guide "How to unlock 3GS/3G on 4.0 firmware" which says: "
All current iPhone 3GS/3G basebands can be unlocked on firmware 4.0 using the dev team's ultrasn0w 0.93. That means if your jailbroken your iPhone 3GS old bootrom (mac jailbreak guide | win jailbreak guide) or jailbroken iPhone 3G (mac/win jailbreak guide) to 4.0 you can unlock it!" Where it says "all current..basebands" is where the confusion lies. I'd like to know if I can just buy any old 3GS and unlock it, or do I need to screen them according to the sticky? And like I said before, I'd like GPS to work, so no 16.15.00.

Well, I got a 3GS, a 32gb version, and all looks good for an unlock. It is jailbroken, has the 05.13.04 baseband, and the bootrom is 359.3, which I have been told is the old bootrom. If this is all kosher, what is the best program to unlock it? Thanks in advance.

Have a friend who wants to do what I have, and has a question I'm not sure about; if the baseband is unlockable, is it necessarily the old bootrom, or should you check that as well?

no, old bootrom has more to do with jailbreaks (or did). You can just as easy have a baseband that is not unlockable on a old bootrom iPhone as a new bootrom.

So the new/old bootrom would affect whether you could jailbreak it? Or is it just not an issue with the jailbreaks now available?

Its pretty much a non issue since the limerain exploit. Although old bootrom does mean it can always be a untethered jailbreak whereas new bootrom may be tethered sometimes (not right now though).
