new iphone 4 w/ 4.02 + 01.59.00

I have a brand new 32gb 4.02 with baseband 01.59.00. picked up an extra phone for backup when I moved my house line.

I haven't really done many JB to date. redsnow on my 2G, Limera!n on a 16G 4G 4.1 02.10.04.

Honestly this baseband stuff is new to me. So the past months of googling, I guess i'm suppose to preserve it. So I really haven't figured it out, or been afraid to JB. I tried following a guide once a few months ago. But then it had to have been JB before. I thought JB would up my baseband...

anyone recommend which JB+Unlock to go for my iphone 4 w/ 4.02 + 01.59.00

If you want to upgrade but I wouldn't suggest it. 4.0.2 is the perfect place to wait because the rest aren't really a big deal. What shsh's do you have saved for it?

shsh - I guess none since i'll have to google that. I have a 16gb i4 on 4.1 + 02.10.04. My buddy did all this for me before, now he's moved out of the country. Let me do some HW of my own and get back to you on that shsh question. Thanks Strayuninfidel

If you havent save SHSH before then all you will be able to get now is 4.3.1. You will want to stay far away from that for now like Stray said. You can find out what SHSH you have with tiny umbrella.

OMG - so i've been playing with tinyumbrella for the first time. had some TSS error, which I found that right click admin was the fix. I still got the same error. After enough hours of gooling, I just said F'it and plugged it in. Got my SHSH saved.

my 32GB which I limerain+ultrasnow has 4.3.1 (8G4)
my 16GB has 4.1(8B117), 4.21(8C148), 4.2b3(8C5115c), 4.31 (8G4)

I've never used tinyumbrella until today. so i'm not sure how those SHSH thingy's got there. But does that mean I can upgrade now?

sorry, 1 more question. I believe my dads 16GB should have the same SHSH as me, as I JB both of ours the same time. He travels to China, so I wanted to help him to unlock (w/o giving him my NEW 32GB). possible with those SHSH? or should I just plug into tinyumbrella to save for the future?

It means your 32gb that is on 4.0.2 can only restore to 4.3.1. So dont do that yet as there is no official untethered jailbreak out for 4.3.1. Just stay on 4.0.2 until there is.

And even when there is proceed with extreme caution since you do not want to update your 1.59 baseband. That baseband is better than gold right now since it is the only iPhone 4 baseband that can be unlocked.

x98car - thanks! so basically i'm looking for news that there's an unlock that supports 1.59 baseband on the 32gb. And since my 16gb is pretty much far past the baseband...I can up that to whatever current untethered JB?

I would recommend keeping that iphone that can't be unlocked where it is for now. The current new firmware that's being signed has no jb. Since 1.59.00 is the only unlockable bb, it is unclear whether the new unlock will support even the newest baseband. It might be safer to keep it wherever it is for now just to see where things go.

Like mentioned previously, without SHSHs you can only go to 4.3.1, so you can't possibly have an untethered jb unless you have SHSHs for 4.2.1 if you're not already on 4.2.1.

If you have SHSHs for 4.2.1, it's fine to go to 4.2.1 as you can still have an untethered jb.

Any device without SHSHs for 4.2.1 should stay put.

Your 32GB looks like you said is on 4.0.2 but doesn't have SHSHs, don't move it as it's unlocked. You can't do anything with that one without 4.2.1 SHSHs.

Your 16GB has SHSHs so you can go to 4.2.1 just fine with a stock or custom firmware. You can upgrade and preserve the baseband at 2.10.04 to be on the safe side of maintaining that baseband just to be safe. Better to stay at that bb than go to 3.10.xx just bc it's unclear whether the devs can unlock for that bb. I have no idea what bb they plan to release an unlock for as the recent new releases have provided them with a roadblock.

Ya, I would suggest stay put on both. Definitely the 32gb. You can go to 4.2.1 on the 16gb if you want. You dont have to worry about updating your baseband on that one. Only way you can update baseband on a iPhone 4 is by restoring to a firmware Apple is currently signing because of the baseband SHSH Apple instituted with iPhone 4. So it is impossible to update your baseband to 3.10 now.

If you do try and go to 4.2.1 on the 16gb then you will get an error 1013 near the end of the process. Just use greenpoison to jailbreak at this point and it will kick you out of recovery.

ya that's why i've been on 4.1. Every time I tried to restore to follow a guide 1)dl firmware, shift/restore I would get an error at the end. So when I get there, I can just run greenpoison and it'll finish it up?

If I received the TSS error in Tiny Umbrella (even with run as admin), but I was able to use it to save SHSH....it's all good? I can attempt to put my 16Gb to 4.21, and use either Green Poison/Tiny Umbrella?

You'll need TinyUmbrella to be able to run the TSS Server to restore to 4.2.1. Then after restoring properly with TSS server running will you get error 1013 and be able to run greenpois0n on it.

ok thanks...will work that TSS error on TinyUmbrella and get my JB on. But a FB update says my GF is in the back of a cop car (WTF?!? no call to me, time for a status update?)

If tiny umbrella is giving you errors it means something is running on your computer that is blocking the TSS server (Skype/teamviewer etc). SO you can either close them out or close tiny umbrella completely. Closing tiny umbrella sets your hosts to cydia which has the same effect as starting the TSS server. So a restore to 4.2.1 will still work for your 16gb doing that (with the 1013 error of course).
