3gs 4.3.1, 5.16.02

Hi,

I have spent days reading on how to remove the Carrier lock on my 3GS. I for the life of me can't seem to find what I am looking for. I don't care about anything at this time, other than being able to put a different carrier's SIM card in it, and use it as a phone.
Here is what I know:

3GS
4.3.1
5.16.02
Windows XP

I have tried all the instructions to find the IBOOT version, however I am not getting the same as the screenshots.

If someone could please help me, I would be very greatful. I have played with a number of CUSTOM IPSW building software already, and not yet had any luck. I also don't object to going to an older IOS at this time, as I just want to use the phone.

You have to install iPad Baseband onto your 3GS. You can do that using Redsn0w.

I managed to get it to go through with the 4.2.1 downgrade, however when Itunes goes to the Firmware part of the downgrade it gives me a 1014 error which of course is a firmware error. I have used tiny umbrella and followed all steps online to downgrade with nothing getting me past this point. I believe that mine is the new bootroma and requires the IPDAD Baseband.

Can't seem to make it happen. I see fixes for 4.3.1, but I can't seem to get the custom IPSW file to load in Itunes. I have tried everything, used Tinyubrella etc... Get errors when it goes to do the Firmware upgrade...

Have you tried to restore to a firmware your tinyumbrella has SHSHs for, like 4.1? I had a problem before where I would get errors and my iphone 3gs would only turn on and show a white screen. my original iphone firmware was 4.2.1 but it started going crazy with the errors and white screen.

Use tinyumbrella to see if you have shsh saved for 4.2.1 if you do start the TSS server n open up iTunes, shift+restore browse for your stock 4.2.1 ipsw. Let it load n if you get a 10xx error, just close iTunes and tinyumbrella and jailbreak with greenpoison RC6 and when it's done you should be all good..

Make sure you follow the on screen instructions for RC6.. I did this many times and it never failed..

Ok, I think I got it to load the new Baseband, and 4.3.1, but now I can't get it out of recovery mode (wire iwth itunes screen). I have tried Iboot and tinyumbrella, but keeps coming back to this screen.

Ideas?

You cannot get it to 4.2.1? If you can, use greenpoison rc6 to jailbreak right out of the recovery screen..

greenpois0n rc6.1 doesn't do 4.3.1 yet - does untether jb on 4.2.1... so either downgradde to 4.2.1 and use gp or use the latest sn0wbreeze 2.4 - it will be tethered until the untethered jb is released which sounds like it will be soon. if you have managed to install 06.15 through one of your attempts then after you finish the jb, install ultrasn0w (add repo: ultrasn0w.com) to unlock it - if you do not have an official carrier sim to activate in itunes, then also install SAM - lots of tut's here and at redmond pie and other places - not hard to find the details.

If you cannot downgrade it to 4.2.1, then downgrade to 4.1 in ITunes, as soon as you get that 10xx error, open up greenpoison rc6 and jailbreak it out of the recovery screen.. It should bypass the recovery screen, and the activation screen..

Go to 4.1... Try using TU if it fails doubtful iTunes will work - Here's the thing... if you managed to insert the 06.15 baseband earlier at some point you can NEVER ever restore to a stock ipsw. So your problem may be due to an earlier success using redsnow to insert the iPad BB but trying to jb 4.3.1 caused the jb failure. Use snowbreeze to make a custom 4.1, preserve the BB option and then shift-restore using iTunes. If it works unlock with ultrasnow. Then hold off on 4.3.1 until untether is out.

I didnt think you could now go to iPad baseband as its lower than the new version of 5.16.02 which you are on, i could be wrong but that's what i think is your problem here.

Ok, got Jailbreak done 4.1, Baseband is 05.16.02, installed Ultrasn0 to unlock, tried new SIM for different network, and just shows "Searching" at the top. Do I need to upgrade the BASEBAND now? Or can I upgrade ONLY the BASEBAND with version 4.1 of the IOS?

So close, yet so far...

Run resn0w and click install iPad baseband if u want to unlock Then load ultrasn0w for unlock.

I didnt think you could now go to iPad baseband as its lower than the new version of 5.16.02 which you are on, i could be wrong but that's what i think is your problem here.

wrong... ipad is at 06.15 > 05.16 - problem is he was trying to downgrade and jb 4.2.1 but had no shsh saved for it - 4.1 was only option.

good deal! just be sure that you know gps will be broken but location services will still function via cell triangulation - not as accurate but it works for most apps - just don't spend any money for a tom-tom app!

also if you have official carrier sim, use it to activate in itunes after the unlock and then switch it to whatever you want to use. otherwise install SAM - see: Subscriber Artificial Module

I am in the exact same situation, although I have no shsh saved for 4.1 or 4.2. I am currently jailbroken on 4.3.1, but need an unlock. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to 6.15.00 and successfully unlock on 4.3.1? I tried to ugrade the baseband to 6.15.00 using sn0wbreeze & my first attempt was unsuccessful and I haven't tried again..

Any shsh for 4.0.x? Maybe try dropping down then go to 4.1 - But think you are out of luck by going right to 4.3.1 - i don't know if the bb can be replaced simply by downgrading ipsw. You can try to get down to an ipsw level that redsnow will work to inject iPad BB - 4.1 to 4.2.1 - don't believe greenpoison injects the BB. Snowbreeze simply allows upgrading ipsw with custom version that preserves BB. So as far as I know, anyone going straight up to 4.3.x is out of luck.
