    Default unlocking 05.15.04 on 4.2.1

Hello, I have read that the unlock for this is coming out after the new ipad is released , but I never see anything. Ultrasnow does not do this baseband (at least it says so in the apps description).
Is this unlcok just a joke or will there actually be a release one day?, cause if not I gotta get rid of this phone quick!
Also, if I did upgrade the baseband to 6.15 and loose my gps, is it ever possible to downgrade to a custom firmware, or you can't downgrade at all?

Thank you very much in advance for all your help!

You can't downgrade basebands. Once upgraded it stays like that.

You would also not be able to restore to a stock firmware, it would have to be a custom firmware.

The unlock isn't a joke...it takes time to develop and right now it is at a standstill bc something unexpected came up. So it would be up to you whether you want to sell the phone or upgrade the baseband to unlock. Be aware that ultrasn0w doesn't work with 4.3 so don't upgrad to 4.3.

Thank you that was just what I needed to know.
But to clarify once and for all, if I do upgrade the baseband the gps will always be broken and is unfixable, correct?

I thought you could install iPad baseband on the 3GS running iOS 4.3

We don't know, there isn't any news out right now, all we know is that MuscleNerd is working on a 40-bit NCK or something. I don't know if it is an unlock.

Hey everyone, I am having a hell of a time with mine. I tried to downgrade to 4.2.1 and upgrade the baseband, but its not letting me. I keep getting errors when trying to load the custom IPSW file in Itunes, even when running Tiny Umbrella. I have tried every possible combination, and now I can't even get it to go through with the original reload of 4.3.1 even though the BB hasn't been changed yet...

    Help?

Do you have SHSH blobs saved for 4.2.1? If not then you cannot downgrade.

But the good news is that, you can install iPad Baseband on iOS 4.3+ using Sn0wbreeze

There are downsides to using iPad Baseband...

    1) You will never be able to restore with iTunes to stock firmware.

    2) You iPhone can easily be detected as jailbroken

    3) You will never be able to downgrade.

I for some reason I cant even get 4.3.1 to go back on. Not sure why? I don't think I have the 4.2.1 stuff saved in Tinyumbrella.

Please advise, it keeps failing even when I go Itunes and restore through the normal process. I think it was getting an error 21?

Hi Xavi, What are your considerations on battery usage on your 3G running the iPad baseband? There are a lot of complaints that it drains the phone battery. Also, did you try to use the GPS without WiFi? I saw on some websites that all claims that the 3G GPS was working on the iPad baseband were mistaken, can you really confirm that? I have the same equipment as you do, 3G 05.15.04 and I can't get it to unlock, I really appreciate if you could answer those questions, thanks!

I just wanted to confirm that the GPS 100% will break.

Many people who claim the GPS is working are using Google Maps, Garmin, motionX, etc. These types use edge/GPRS which works off cell towers meaning it uses data, not GPS. To truly confirm GPS, apps like TomTom or Navigon are true gps apps. So please verify that either TomTom, Navigon, or any other true GPS apps are working before claiming gps is not broken.

Usually in the app store the descriptions will tell you whether the app runs off edge/3G data so that's important to notice.

Correct me if I am wrong, the iPhone 3G GPS only works via edge/GPRS because it is assisted by the cell towers in contrary to the 3GS which works natively without the need of a cellular signal, that being sad the iPhone 3G users won't loose the GPS functionality because it will still work the way it was designed, cell tower assisted.
If I can confirm that I will only need to clarify the issue with the battery being drained, if that's true.
    Thank you

Allow me to add something, I heard the 3G GPS will still work but will have its accuracy greatly reduced.

Please test out a true gps app such as TomTom or Navigon then report if that works. I have seen both 3G and 3GS users lose GPS function every time.

This disagreement occurs quite frequently, needless to say the naysayers usually come back and tell me their GPS is actually broken

Im not trying to persuade you, I'm just making sure people here don't take your word for it then come back and get mad that their gps is broken.

Btw, turn off your data and wifi and see how well gps works for you.

I see, I just wiped the phone and there are no apps on it right now that use the GPS, the reason I asked was because I own an iPhone 2G 1st Gen and I just got this 3G, in other words, I never used the GPS or the phone, it had 3.1.2 and I screwed up updating to 4.2.1 and then downgrading to 3.1.3 because I thought that 4.2.1 was too slow, on that process my baseband got upgraded and now I can't unblock it, it was perfectly unblocked with 3.1.2 and 4.2.1 and when I downgraded it upgraded the baseband, that's the only explanation I can find.

As far as of the GPS goes I thought I read somewhere the 3G GPS it's not a real GPS like the 3GS GPS and it need to access the cellular towers in order to work but since I am screwed and have no way to confirm it people that read this should be aware of the risks.

So...are you on 6.15.00 bb or not? Because you'd have to manually use a jailbreak tool to upgrade the baseband. From what I'm reading, you didn't mention upgrading the bb to the iPad baseband but rather you said the bb was upgraded in general. Which wouldn't take to the iPad bb on its own without your doing so.

Essentially, I am telling you in all confidence that if you have upgraded to the 6.15.00 bb your GPS is broken.

I'm on bb 05.15.04 still, The story is, I never heard about the term "baseband" before I broke my iPhone, considering that when I got the phone it was unlocked and working perfectly on 3.1.2 and after I updated to 4.2.1 it was still unlocked and working perfectly (except for running slower than my 2G) the process of downgrading it must have changed the baseband to 05.15.04 which lead me to research and ask on this forum about user's experiences with the iPad baseband, that's the only thing that I can think of right now as a reasonable explanation, right now I have an iPhone next to me that is a useless piece of metal as far as of communication goes and I'm willing to donate to a blessed hacker to look into this baseband version hell.
