Does losing GPS functionality mean losing location services, as well?
I have an iPhone 3GS on 4.2.1 with a baseband of 05.15.04. The phone is jailbroken. I would like to unlock the phone and have read all of the caveats, warnings etc. about going to a 06.15 baseband. However, I want to understand what "losing GPS" means.
Will I lose the location services and compass functionality? I have the TomTom app and understand that GPS will not work with that app rendering it useless but I'm more concerned with the inherent location services and how losing GPS will affect Google Maps.

The iPhone maps app and most other location services will triangulate off cell signals and can be quite variable in accuracy. Motionx lite is a free app that does a decent job discussing how it works when no gps signal is available. fwiw - I have been in Oslo since Dec with jb/ul on 06.15 and all my location services work rather well with surprising accuracy. Suspect when cell service is weak or spotty accuracy will drop.

Thank you all for your responses. I found them all very helpful. I hope the instructions for unlocking are equally as helpful.
