iphone 3gs locked for a particular network

I have iphone 3GS. I was told while purchasing the device that it is factory unlocked and that all netwrok sims wud work on it but I could not validate his claims as I am a newbie. But the seller showed me different network sims working on it

I had ios 3.x.x when i purchased it. I upgraded it to 4.3 and now my iphone doesnt detect the network(Airtel) for which sim was inserted. Before upgrade Airtel netwrok sim was working perfetcly fine. After upgrade when I insert some other network sim (vodafone) my iphone is just perfect.

Please let me know how can I know whether my ipohne is factory unlocked though chances are minimal as it had cydia installed on it at the time of purchase.

Second how can I make my iphone working on all the networks.

I remember reading somewhere that if your phone is factory unlocked, you will have a msg saying your phone is unlocked after restoring as new phone in itunes. Beside, your sim doesn't work after restore. Chance is your phone is locked

1.visit limera1n and download tiny strong software for Jailbreak.Follow the instructions on software while on run.
2.Backup all the files and photos on iTune before doing this.
3.After Jailbreak your phone will return to the normal state but without a carrier and you might not have the network, Dont worry at all.
4.Connect to WiFi and start your phone.
5.Tap Limera on Home Screen or second page.
6.The List will Load the application "Cydia".
7.Tap on the link and install Cydia.
8.After Installation phone will get restarted.
9.After Restart find Cydia application on screen and open it.
10.It will load the repositories and run. Go to search and find for ultrasn0w.
11.Go to untrasn0w once you find and install the package.
12.Phone will restart in "All you need mode"
13.That all. Now if its work for you ... I will be the most happiest cuz i spend whole 10 hrs in R&D with my Locked and screwed up iphone in 2010 sometime ago.

You upgraded to official 4.3?! Then 5.16 baseband cannot be unlocked

If it is truly factory unlocked regardless of the baseband it should work with any SIM.

If it is currently not working with any SIM besides official carrier, it is not factory unlocked.

Currently there isn't a stable jailbreak for 4.3 nor is there a way to unlock it unless you update the baseband to 6.15.00 which will break the GPS.

You might not even be able to update the baseband even if you wanted to bc there isn't a tool to do it on 4.3 right now. Maybe PwnageTool (unofficial and not stable) can, but I wouldn't rely on an unstable tool.

thanks for that info. Since its ios4.3 i was in doubt whether to jailbreak it or not. Now as u confirm it I will continue with the carrier its is working with and will not jailbreak until some stable tool is available.
