Unlock from anywhere?
Hey forum,
is it possible to unlock any iPhone 3GS/4 the current basebands for 4.2.1?
I know that there is a carrier unlock (which I do not qualify for).
If I went to a "unlock" vendor, I'm assuming they'll try to do a carrier unlock rather than scam me and perform the same unlock that I can do if my baseband was unlockable.
Any thoughts? I'm anxious for the unlock so I can use the i4 rather than be stuck with my i3GS.
Thanks in advance! If I helped you in any way, please click on the

Wait a week or two (maybe three). It's hopeful that with 4.3 out that the devs are coming out with the software unlock.

What about those "unlock-vendors" at their little boutiques? If they're offering to do the unlock process for me, is the process done with one of those "unlock-machines" and is it legit?

Most local stores do software unlocks. They tend to get business from iPhone users who don't know how to jailbreak. I actually get a lot of phone calls from local cell phone shops around me to jb and unlock iPhones. They pay me to do it lol.

I have no idea. I usually go into the stores to buy something and somehow the topic of unlocking iPhones always come up. Then they ask me if I know how to do it and I end up telling them I know how to do a bunch of stuff lol. Then they ask for my number and call me when they get new iPhones that need unlocking or fixing.

Just go to your local cell phone shops and casually being up iPhone conversation, maybe they'll ask for your services

I charge $10 per device so I think I have a good rate

That would be nice. There are 3 apple stores around me and unfortunately most people decide to go to one of them instead, so I've been branching out into Android now too.

Rooting isn't that difficult, it only gets to be a little bit of a pain because of all the different phones running android.
I also charge more than 10.

Yeah I put my rates up higher for my new clients. I charge like $15 for jb and $20 if I have to do a restore or upgrade.
I only charge one guy $10 bc he is like one of the first customers I've had. The new people get higher rates lol.
I'm like Wes, I do iDevices only (except iPad, haven't gotten any of those yet to experiment on).
