You seem to know facts about Factory Unlocking. I received an iPhone 4 for christmas. It was purchased in Malaysia and marked as an AT&T iPhone 4 on the box. When I tried to activate the phone at iTunes my computer crashed mid stream. After crash this message comes up "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."
when I returned to the States AT&T tried multiple SIM cards with the same error. I then went to the Apple store, in the US. They replaced the phone twice. and somehow they got the iphone to to accept a new SIM and I assigned an AT&T # to it and it worked until I had to reset it to assign a new number to it. The Error is back and neither AT&T or Apple can get past the "SIM card not supported".
I suspect the crash changed the Factory Assigned code or when I was in Malaysia, they did something like Jailbreak. Don't have the original SIM only a number of old burned ones that would not activate.
Apple Phone service hints that somehow the phone is assigned to a malaysian carrier, but won't or can't tell me who.
Thanks for helping

from there you can enter the IMEI here. it will give you the origination of the phone

I actually think it's still usable on 4.3.3. It reportedly covers all the new basebands as of today.

Yup, still works fine on 4.3.3. It has been patched as of 5.0 beta2 though.
