hi.. i am newbie w/ this iphone problem. i just update my iphone 3g OS 3.1.3 to the higher firmware w/c is the iOS 4.2 tru itunes. after that my fon stuck on the emergency call mode and itunes is asking for the simcard w/ pin that i have to input to my fon for the itunes to recognize it. now the only picture that i see on my fon screen is the itunes and usb logo. while the itunes cant open my fon. help me please. i dont know my baseband because i dont know how to check. sorry.. i want it to jailbreak so that i can unlock it also. thank you in advance..

the one you give me saying that there is no unlock for iOS 4.2.1 yet. so for that reason, can i just recall my previous firmware so that i can unlock my device. can i use the redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to install again to iOS 3.1.3? so that i can unlock my fon soon?

Before you do anything, what firmware and baseband are you on?

for the firmware, i've just updated it to iOS 4.2. my previous firmware is iOS 3.1.3 and im so sorry because i dont know the baseband right now. i dont know how to check it now because the one appears on my fon screen is the itunes and the usb logo only if i connect it to the pc and if i disconnect, it appears the emergency mode only.

Well if you updated to 4.2.1, you now have 05.15.04bb. If you need to unlock, you can use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to hacktivate, jailbreak, and install ipad baseband. thank you.. and one more thing. from my situation now, can i just update it again back to iOS 3.1.3? if yes, so the procedure in jailbreaking is just the same on what the iOS 4.2 does? only is that i use the iOS 3.1.3 instead of iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file that i download. so for that, i can just unlock it again. because it made me crazy now lol

You can shift+restore to 3.1.3, use tiny umbrella to exit recovery. Use redsn0w 0.9.4 (but browse to 3.1.2) to jailbreak. You can downgrade firmware but not baseband (unless you have 5.08 bootloader, download tiny umbrella to check bootloader, this is kind of rare though.), for example even if you downgrade to 3.1.3 you will still have 05.15.04bb which cannot be unlocked.

(i've just restored the iOS 3.1.3 with the baseband 5.14, now it stuck on the emergency mode and looking for a valid sim to activate my fon. and i dont have that sim and i dont know also what carrier it may be. any posibilities for this fon to be jailbreak and unlock this time or the only way is updating the baseband to 6.xx? also i downloaded sn0wbreeze 1.6 and redsn0w 9.6rc8 but they will now recognize the FW 4.2.1, any help on how it works? (MAIN PROBLEM: how to activate my fon without the carrier sim)

and now, i update my fon to FW 4.1 and also the BB to 6.15 using redsn0w, after some attempt the update's done and rebooting my fon. but it seems i just make it worst because my fon stuck only on the apple logo. any idea? waiting for someone who can help me before i do again some tricky updating, jailbreaking.. watsoever....)


just jailbreaked my phone and activating it without valid sim through redsn0w and sn0wbreeze.. now unlocking it by cydia but cant get through because internet data in the ship blocks all explicit sites etc.. including hacking and networking.. need to wait till we reach US ports for some free wi-fi..
