    Default Question

    Hi,

I have been going through the forums for several days and could not find a post which would completely answer my question (im sure its there but i cant find it). Here is the deal:

I have an Iphone 3G with IOS 4.0 (JB and Unlocked, BB 5.13.04. Im using Windows 7 on my laptop and do not have access to Mac OS. As you all know this combination leads to a dreadfully slow iphone which is the last thing i want.

    1) Will upgrading to IOS 4.2 (or any version above 4.0) help speed it up a bit?
    2) If yes, then will I be able to unlock it later? I dont know if upgrading will also upgrade the baseband.
I have read http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=12949 but i dont know what baseband i will end at after update (i will NOT be selecting ipad baseband for this).
    3) If yes, then can someone point me to a wiki or list a few steps how to do it?

Again apologies for a possible duplicate post !

    1) Nope, I wouldn't suggest an update. If anything I would downgrade if you can

    2) Jailbreak using Sn0wbreeze with baseband preservation mode to keep your current baseband.

    3) Here is a step by step guide.

How to update an iPhone while preserving the baseband

    1) Download PwnageTool 4.2 if your on a Mac from Here

    OR

Download Sn0wbreeze if you are on Windows from Here

    2) Download the 4.2.1 firmware from Here

    3) Open whichever program you downloaded and browse and select the firmware that you just downloaded.

    4) Select Baseband Preservation Mode and create a custom firmware.

    5) Plug your iPhone into the computer and put it into DFU Mode, your screen should be black and should NOT have the recovery mode logo on it.

    6) iTunes will recognize your iPhone as in recovery mode and then restore your iPhone with the 4.2.1 Custom firmware you just created.

Once the restore is done your baseband should have stayed the same.

    7) Unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2 in Cydia.
Sent from my iPhone using ModMyi

Just one last question on this: I fi use Baseband preservation mode in snowbreeze 2.2.1, i will not end up with a JB phone? because it says in snowbreeze that it will only preseve bb and no unlocks/JB.

Should i go for expert/simple mode and will they preserve bb as well?
