Apple does not have the legal right to keep independent dev's from witting software for the IOS, would it be ok for Microsoft to do the same thing?
All of sudden Microsoft will not approve apps for windows and make windows OS have a signature process it will not allow programs to be used unless its bought under the Windows software store ( where Microsoft gets a Cut of every program sold.)
When you post this it makes me think you do not see the big picture, every app sold in the Apple store, Apple makes money off of.
IF the door is closed so you can't use Cydia, then there is no other competition.
So I have a right to use other apps for my Iphone and suffer the consequences for what happens, its not Apple's right to control it.As you stated in your own post, mobile terminal, and MANY other apps on cydia are very unreliable, and are often useless for weeks after a firmware update, due to the nature of the application itself.
As I said its not Apple's job nor right to police apps for my iphone, that is my job. If its truly legal then why is there an ongoing fight in the courts against Microsoft? Microsoft wants to bundle and give you free IE and virus scanners. Its wrong because it has to do with the big picture, it squashes competition, an exclusive App store is wrong and will catch up with Apple, in time. Why? Because they keep posting big profits because of Iphone, Once the sleeping Lions awaken they will attack Apple for monopolizing the Apps. As for At&t thats another topic. The app store is the way it is, because its for the MAJORITY of iPhone users. A user can download a program, and if for some odd reason the phone doesn't start anymore, the user will get a brand new phone. If apple didn't have a strick approval process, this could not be possible. Not to mention only things worth having on cydia would put apple in a compromising situation with AT&T, and now Verizon.
I disagree "The normal user" this hints that they are not intelligent enough? Hmm many look for jailbroken devices on Ebay, Perhaps the problem is Apple's crap about warranty and bricking the phone that keeps many from JB, the crap that its illegal. The crap that its only for pirating.........I think this keeps more people from JB then your proposed IQ limit.IMHO jailbreak should stay where it is, just for the advanced, the normal user would not be able to handle the options, nor would they even need it, they can just pay a little extra for the extra features they want, like they would with any other phone.
So We may not agree, you may be OK with Apple Monopolizing having the only APP store, I for one am not comfortable with it, and like free enterprise and the small guy.Last edited by DRFP; 03-04-2011 at 07:00 AM.
