    Default iPhone 3gs - 3.0 - 4.26.08

    Hello All !

I have an iPhone 3GS with old bootrom that I bought in Sept 2009.
It has Modem Firmware : 4.26.08 and OS: 3.0 (7A341)
I had JB and ULocked it using Redsnow (cydia) + ultrasnow using Windows based computer.

Now, can I upgrade my iPhone to latest version of OS and keep my JB and Unlock ( i m not on ATT ). Can someone please give me some direction ... I have a windows based computer to do this ..

There is no way to update without removing all the stuff on the iPhone, however you can backup all of your data in iTunes and update then re-jailbreak and re-unlock.

    1) Download PwnageTool 4.2 if your on a Mac from here: http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/617...18.TPB.torrent

    OR

Download Sn0wbreeze if you are on Windows from here: http://hotfile.com/dl/106420253/5916...2.2.1.zip.html

    2) Download the 4.2.1 firmware from here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

    3) Open whichever program you downloaded and browse and select the firmware that you just downloaded.

    4) Select Baseband Preservation Mode and create a custom firmware.

    5) Plug your iPhone into the computer and put it into DFU Mode, your screen should be black and should NOT have the recovery mode logo on it.

    6) iTunes will recognize your iPhone as in recovery mode and then restore your iPhone with the 4.2.1 Custom firmware you just created.

    7) Once the restore is done your baseband should have stayed the same.

    8) Unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2 in Cydia.

    Hello iGoof!

Thanks so much for your response. I am really greatful !

I have some follow up Questions...

    1. Do you recommend me to wait for OS 4.3 ? ..or shd I go for 4.2.1 right now ...

    2. Do you recommend me to stay with current firmware 4.26.08 .. or should I upgrade to whatever latest is available. What are the benefits and losses of this.

    3. Some websites say that I will have to update the firmware to 6.15.00 to use ultrasnow 1.2 to unlock the phone ... is this true ? ... Because you said that I can keep my original firmware. I dont want to load the iPad firmware because it is irreversible and I also dont want to loose the GPS functionality.

    4. From your iclarified link, i hav downloaded :
    4.2.1 (3GS): iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw
... is this the correct file for my iphone ?

Lookin fwd to hearin from you

    Thanks!
    Andy

    Umm...

    1) Whenever 4.3 will be released no one reallly knows when a jailbreak will be out for that. So I would just go for 4.2.1

    2) YES! Stay with the 4.26.08 baseband, you are extremely lucky you are on that baseband. DO NOT UPGRADE THE BASEBAND

    3) Because you are on 4.25.08 baseband you don't need to upgrade your baseband to 6.15 and you will be able to use Ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock your iPhone on baseband 4.26.08

    4) Yes that is the correct file.
