Throwback Challenge: Unlocking iPhone 1g, no wifi, no power button
Ok, here's a tough one that I've worked on for hours. I have a first gen iPhone I would like to unlock to use as a phone overseas (I'm on sprint so my phones don't have sim cards). Its running 3.1.3 with a 04.05.04_G baseband. The problem is, though, it's wifi stopped working, I broke the power button , and it wasn't jailbroken or unlocked before the wifi gave up
.
My hours of trying boil down to basically two approaches:
1. Cyder (I think it needs ssh installed to work, correct me if I'm wrong).
2. Making a custom firmware with the packages built in (need to put it into DFU but cant because of the power button).
Any ideas? I was doing this a while ago, got so frustrated I left it. Now I'm heading out for a vacation and need a phone
.

Jailbreak with Spirit, and then download/run "BootLoader" from Cydia to flash your baseband to unlock. Since you don't have Wifi you would have to find and download the "BootLoader" .deb and put it into "/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall" if you don't see a "AutoInstall" folder then you can create one yourself. Once you put the .deb file in there reboot your phone and you will see a Boot icon on there.
And you cannot use an iPhone 2G on sprint.

You've got only one option... Let the battery die and then plug the phone into charge and it should reboot.

ok, might as well try it, but I can't find the deb for "bootloader". Is it on a specific repo? I've found other important debs like sbsettings, but not that one.

ok, put bootneuter and sbsettings and its dependencies into /Media/private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall using iphone explorer, ran the battery down till it died. Plugged it back and it booted up again, but still no go. Where did I go wrong?

You have to run bootneuter. Just SSHing it in isn't going to unlock it.

Thanks for the continued help. I attached a screen shot of everything I put in the autoinstall folder. No icons came up after reboot i.Annie.
Edit: I read somewhere that it may not work the first time. Running down the battery for another attempt.Last edited by majzoob; 03-01-2011 at 04:46 PM.

I read somewhere that you have to execute it after installing manually like that.
The user said to use Putty (download it here: PuTTY Download Page)
Then log into your device with this guide: http://www.ehow.com/i/#article_5252832
Then execute this code:
dpkg -i nameofprogram.deb
**in your case, I see your file name is bootneuter_2.1.deb so use that in place in the above script.
So it would be
dpkg -i bootneuter_2.1.deb

Problem is I can't get the IP address, no wifi.
Edit: I read up on a couple of sites, it looks like that is all you need to install something. Put it in AutoInstall and reboot. But a lot places also say more than once. I hope this time it works.Last edited by majzoob; 03-01-2011 at 06:31 PM.

You need afc2add and OpenSSH but you can ssh with ifunbox or diskaid without wifi.

ok, new update...
Got stuck in a bootup cycle, thought I was screwed. I found a nice program called recboot that kicked it into recovery as it was booting up. I restored the firmware, rejailbroke with spirit. Now I can't find the "Media" folder in iphone explorer anymore
.
At least now I know it was doing something with the cycle. I'll try just doing the unlock this time and not sbsettings, one thing at a time. Any hints for finding the media folder again?

Are you accessing it like so
Root/var/mobile
It should be in there. If not, might need to restore again? Not sure though.
