Hello all, newbie needs help please with 4-digit Passcode for iphone4?
Hi, sorry for the newbie, non-tech savy question, but here goes. i loaned my iphone4, 3.1 to my boyfriend after he lost his phone awhile back - we broke up recently, he gave it back, but he will not tell me the 4-digit passcode he put on it as we are not speaking. I have read over the last few days that i should download an 'iphone Browser' program, then look for the 'Keychains' and delete one of them to unlock it so i can reset everything - i don't want to Restore the phone, and loose all of my music and contacts i put on it before i gave it to him. Where do i find this download please? and what are the steps to take once i do this? Thank you all so much for any help, i just do not know how to do this....

Use iFunBox instead of iphonebrowser. And search YouTube for something like "recover password iPhone" I normally solve most my problems that way now since this forum is very quiet of late.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! i have been looking at all the YouTube's, and that is how i found out about deleting the 'keychains'. So i download the iFunBox to my PC, then i will be able to see the 'roots' and the keychains somewhere? soooo sorry for the dumb questions....

yes. when you open ifunbox, if you have a jailbroken iphone, it will be shown in the left column as -
>your iphone name >iphone model >software version. If it is not jailbroken, it will show (jailed) after that, if not it's jailbroken.
The last item in the list - "Raw File System" is what you want. Click + and then "var". You'll find "root" there.

Which iPhone is it? Can't be an iPhone 4 on 3.1, so is it 3GS? Anyway, I think a restore is best. You would need OpenSSH and afc2add from Cydia to ssh into your phone's files. Don't know if you've got those but if you do then good luck with the SSH if that's the route you want to try.

Restore it. Just be aware if it was obtained through questionable means it is likely blacklisted and useless as a phone

Thank you all, and Guardian 10, yes it is jailbroken, he did this with 'greenpoison' he said. It is my phone i bought thru AT&T, is legit, and before loaning out i put all my family + friends contacts all emails, music, photos, etc. that i do not want wiped with a restore. I forgot to mention, i have: Windows 7 PC at home, iphone4 (OS), 16mb GSM, model A1332USB 2.0 - so hoping iFunBox will work with all this?

I hope you are aware that your datas are backed up onto your pc if you have synced lately. so, you can restore those datas if at all you have to wipe out and restore.

Assuming you have a back up saved that is from before when no password was applied to the phone, you can restore from back up. If you restored from back up right now with the password on the phone, it's just gonna put the password lock right back on.
Perhaps attempt to use a data extractor to extract via SSH the items you need from the device. But if you have a back up to restore with that didn't have any password that you don't know then that's fine too.

I am not sure but i think you can save your photos and most of stuff on your iPhone from ifunbox if you are stucked at lockscreen passcode lock chose camera or photos there and you can also save contacts,I think you must search YouTube for saving contacts from ifunbox but I say better next time you use ibackup contacts which backups contacts on email it helps me a lot ,I hope it helped you

thanks again to all. I never got to the point to do a Sync or set up itunes link on my PC. dumb, i know, but i am so new at all this, and the boyfriend insisted on the jailbreak with greenpoison, which i am hoping was ok...so now it is basically an un-sync-ed phone with a 4-digit lock on it. i saw on utube that i can delete keychains.2.db in VAR (correct?) and then i can get in Settings, etc. without restoring and looseing all my data..i downloaded iFunBox this morning, so when i get home will see how far i can get...has anyone done this with the iFunBox?

Techyrock, thank you! I will try this, am hoping the fact that I never sync-ed or backed up the phone will not be a problem with this method....
