Battery drain with baseband 05.13 ?

I want to upgrade to 4.2.1 but and was wondering if the battery drain problem cause by the hactivation only affects users who are on iPad baseband. I have a iPhone 3G bootloader 05.08 so I can easily downgrade my baseband to 05.13. If I use a custom firmware with no baseband update, will I got the battery drain problem ? SAM doesn't work for my carrier.

I installed iPad baseband one of my iPhone 3GS's and it caused huge battery drainage, I fixed it with a restore and a re-jailbreak.

I've jailbroken multiple iPhone 3G's and they had no battery problems
