    Default iPhone 4 IMEI Unlock?

    Hey Forum,

I live in The Netherlands and bought an iPhone 4 in America in november. My question is could my American iPhone 4 (BB 2.10.04 | FW: 4.1) be IMEI unlocked?
My understanding for IMEI is that a Dutch telephone company would put in my IMEI code in there system, and there for I would be locked to their service?

    Is this possible?

Thank you in advance guys .

I know, but doesn't your IMEI code have something to do with it?

Its the baseband which matters. Not the IMEI.. Your baseband 2.10.04 is not unlockable at the moment.. Unlock might be available in 2 weeks so you better not update it to the latest firmware to be on the safe side.

You guys don't know wth your talking about... In the Netherlands, you can have your phone factory unlocked, as in doesn't matter what your baseband is. But unfortunetely, it has to be a phone purchased through the carrier.

dude i know what i am talking about.. i was addressing to his issue..he bought it from america and he's stuck now.. there's no way he can unlock his phone.. the only possible way is that if he asks AT&T to provide the factory unlock code..but i don't think its possible because he has to pay additional amount or complete the contract..whatever the terms are..and yeah ofcourse factory unlocked iphones have the same baseband..

Buying the phone outright kind sucks compared to a free unlock

I bought mine from Apple Canada so I didnt have to wait for unlocks. It's hard enough to wait for jailbreaks. I also wanted to be able to JB without worries of messing up my baseband.
60% of the time, it works every time.

The best answer is give your locate phone a call, I have feeling that in you case yes but you have to pay more for unlock because you bough the phone from US, Otherwise everyone around the world will buy phone from US and get unlock oversea, I know phone in US cheaper than every else around the world.

BTW, post your result on here if they are OK to unlock your phone.

Any iphone you buy in UK is locked with AT & T and needs to be unlocked before it could be used with any other network. When you unlock imei iphone you actually make it usable with desired network & the number is listed out of the IMEI database.

all iphones are unlocked per say when they are manufactured. then carriers around the world purchase them and distinguish there phones by the IMEI number. each carrier then submits the IMEI they wish to lock onto there carriers. they do this so they can subsidize the price of the phone and can legally lock you into a service contract for X amount of years. then as they seem fit, they can re-submit your IMEI number to be unlocked.

the trick here is, ANY carrier can submit you IMEI number to unlocked.. regardless who you were locked to. software and hardware unlocks are just tools to get around the IMEI carrier unlock but has it's baseband limitations. if your carrier has an option to unlock after your contract is over, then they will do it. for alot of us, ATT does not play by those rules. but if your lucky enough to have a carrier ie O2 or one of the many carriers who do unlock after contract is up.. they will do it but perhaps at a fee.

if your on one of those carriers who unlock phones and your phone was not purchased from them, just sign up with there carrier for X amount of time. after some time, most of these carriers will provide you with an unlock.. except for ATT, as they are an evil empire
