iPhone 4 Baseband 1.59.00

I just purchased an iPhone 4 today from craigslist and it is currently on 4.0.1 iOS and 1.59.00 baseband which can be unlocked. I have T-Mobile so I need the unlock. Just a few questions for the experts out there before I begin messing with it.

My current phone I use for T Mobile is the iPhone 3G and its on iOS 4.1 and it has never had a problem on that iOS. So my question is should I update the iPhone 4 iOS to 4.1 as well without updating the baseband so I don't lose the unlock or just keep the 4.0.1 and go ahead with the unlock?

Also if there's anything else I need to know about the iPhone 4 just some start up tips and what to avoid when installing. I really want to update to 4.1 but anyone have experience with 4.0.1 on the iPhone 4 that can provide some help before I move to 4.1.

First thing you should do is find out what SHSH you have with tiny umbrella

you can either use firmware umbrella which you can get here ,The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella , to upgrade to 4.2.1 and keep your baseband the same or just make a custom firmware using pwnage tool or snowbreeze depending on if you have a mac or pc. if you are unsure how to do either just pm me and i can make and send you a custom firmware that you can update with itunes.

Okay thanks for the quick reply guys. I just erased all my settings so it's now on the emergency call screen and I have to trim the sim card which I'll have someone do tonight and then I'll post on here the shsh and I already have tiny umbrella downloaded so im very familiar with that program.

You can't update to 4.1, those SHSH's aren't signed by apple anymore. Follow this guide:

There is actually a template out there u can probably print out and trace over it and other ways but I'm having a pro do it for me later tonight so I'm not the best person to answer that.

I just received an article from a friend. He is saying that Apple has confirmed that iPod 2 will come out on March 2nd, and as well the iOS 4.3 will also release the same day from official site.

Apple is holding an event that day. Probably will outline release of the two, but there isnt any guarantee that they will actually release 4.3 on that date. Also just because 4.3 comes out dont automatically assume the unlock will follow right after. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
