I have a fresh 3gs with FW 4.2.1 and BB 5.15 is there a way to unlock without updating BB ?

No, there isn't. At least not yet.

So the only way is update BB to 6.15, or downgrade to 4.1 with shsh ?

The only was is through iPad BB 6.15 but is problematic...... downgrading to 4.1 won't downgrade your BB!!!! Possibly better to wait.......

Yes, 5.11.07 is unlockable. Make sure not to upgrade that baseband.

Lol this thread was from today. I don't think there is any news. Not even sure if they're working on unlocking 5.15.
Even if they were, it seems to take long. Much longer than getting a jailbreak out

Hi. I have a 3GS and I was stucked on 5.15.04 with 4.1 Using windows 7.
I finally unlocked my baby yesterday with Redsn0w/Ultrasn0w/ipad baseband ect.... The phone worked great for 1 day, and I started to put all my cydia apps back. After installing iQuickRealSMS (who wasn't recognizing *the purchase I made 1 year ago), the phone freezed and stucked on reboot/apple logo for 1 hour.*
I tried to restore with custom 4.1 with iTunes, but it's failing all the time.*
Questions:*
- Am I supposed to restore again before redo the redsn0w jailbreak/unlock ? If yes am I supposed to use the custom 4.1 ? Or should I download a custom 4.2 ?*
- Since I succeed yesterday and all was working great before that stupid accident, am I already on 6.15 baseband ? (maybe that's why iTunes refuse to restore my custom 4.1 ?)
- Or am*I supposed to just re-jailbreak straight with Redsn0w/Ultrasn0w without restoring with iTunes ?
Sorry for the long post. But I'm trying to be max specific.*

With the 6.15 baseband, anytime you're restoring, you're going to need to use a custom ipsw. Of course, custom ipsw means its already jailbroken. So once you restore to a custom ipsw, you won't need to use redsn0w since its already jailbroken.

The only thing you may need to use redsn0w for is to get it into pwned DFU mode before restoring to a custom firmware. If you don't, you might get an error.

Where did you get the custom 4.1 from?
