    Default 16gb 3Gs UnLock HELP!

I have used this phone for some time, successfully unlocked for T-Mobile Us, and I switched to VZW, my wife however is wanting to use this. I upgraded to the newest firmware, and tried to re-unlock.. to no avail.. I tried using UltraSn0w via Cydia, and JB using GreenP0ison..

When I put in her sim, it says "Searching..."

The baseband is not unlockable. You updated it to 4.2.1 which also updated the baseband.

The only way right now to unlock is to upgrade the baseband to the iPad baseband of 6.15.00. It disables GPS function and cannot be fixed right now. So you'd either have to wait or lose GPS and update the baseband.

Nope can't downgrade the baseband. You won't be able to use any service from T-Mobile without unlocking the phone. So you'd have to use the iPad baseband or wait for another unlock. If GPS isn't a huge deal to you, go for it, but honestly I wouldn't do that to any of my phones. I just like to have the option even if I don't use GPS often.

    1) Open Redsn0w, select the firmware of your iPhone

    2) Let it load the firmware and stuff

    3) Once its loaded check "Install Cydia" (If it isn't already jailbroken on 4.2.1) and also check "Install iPad Baseband"

    4) Press next, then follow the DFU mode instructions, then let it run the whole install process

    5) Once its all done then just Unlock via Ultrasn0w 1.2

Sounds like it is definite that gps is broken on 4.2.1? Been out of touch for a bit and last I read it was a crap shoot. I'm on 4.1 (3GS/bb06.15) - gps seems to work fine. Was thinking of using snowbreeze to make custom fw to update to 4.2.1 but guess I'll stay at 4.1.

Using Google Maps does not count ad GPS. Google Maps draws from data so the GPS may seem like it works. Using TomTom or Navigon or any true GPS app will not be possible.

are you saying 4.1 or 4.2.1 does not matter - gps fails on both due to 06.15?

I'm in Oslo now and using a couple of the public transit app's - they both trigger the purple arrow symbol and both get my location to show me the local transit stations and if I go to the maps, they nail my location. so are there any free gps apps I could use to double check?

It's the baseband that causes GPS failure. Doesn't matter if you're on 4.2.1, 4.1 or even 3.1.3. I'm sure there's a free GPS app, I just don't know what it is. But true GPS does not work when you use the iPad baseband. Many reports where people have used Maps and thought it was all good, they go to download TomTom and next thing you know it isn't working. google maps definitely does not determine whether your gps is working or not.

yup, got it... was initially under impression it was 4.2.1 that had some issue with the 06.15 BB that blocked gps and 4.1 was mostly ok. It looked like the oslo metro app was picking up gps but it is just like others, if no gps signal, it uses triangulation. I guess any location type app will indicate a purple arrow icon even if not on the gps. I grabbed motionx lite free to double check gps and definitely no signal so I guess for my needs the triangulation has worked out to be good enough. I use a garmin gps for travel anyway so no need for gps on the iphone, besides it sucks up battery life, so I am still happy with my unlock which is far more important. Lots of bitchin and moanin about broken gps, but for my money - ie: FREE - I'm thrilled to have an unlocked phone and all the dozens of other apps I use far more often.

so when do we get the BB downgrade?

Currently baseband downgrades can be done on iPhone 3G with BL 5.8. Not sure if the devs are bothering with any other iPhone as of right now.
