I must've done something wrong but I don't know what! Please help!

I bought an iPhone that said "Insert a valid sim with no pin lock to activate phone" so I went online to find out what to do. I used sn0wbreeze 2.2 to "jailbreak" my phone and then used ultrasn0w 1.2 to "unlock" it (i'm sorry, i still don't know and understand all the terminology). the message went away and my phone works but I can't make any calls because it does not recognize my TMobile sim card. What did I do wrong??

the phone version is 4.2.1(8C148), modem firmware 05.15.04.

i think u have just done the jailbreaking but not unlock.u can only jailbreak this BAseband(modem firmware). u have to wait for the unlock.28th Feb hopefully
