Need advice on a 3GS purchase (6.15.00)
I bought a 3GS from a vendor online. I asked him what firmware it had, he told me 5.13.04, so I was like "great!"
Well, stupid me, I didn't tell him not to restore or update or anything.
So he arrives, and sure enough, it's now 5.15.04.
I think if I ask hard enough, i could get a refund, but it was pretty good price. (200 euros, and just sold my 3G for 200 too, haha).
Are the problems of 6.15.00 worth it? Won't I have trouble trying to resell this when I want the iPhone 5? Or do you think there will be a fix (for GPS/battery..) by then?
Thanks!
EDIT: Sorry, yes, i need an unlock.Last edited by FrogsOblivious; 02-16-2011 at 11:46 AM.

Yeah, the iPad baseband is kind of a burden... a "messy solution" to the unlocker's problem. I would avoid it if I were you, unless you are desperate for it. It doesn't help the resell value at all either as it makes it more complicated for the average user.

Wait till Feb 28th. Once iOS 4.3 is out ultrasn0w 2.0 or 2.2 may release unlock for 3GS with latest baseband.

From all the chatter on sites. The unlock is ready but they are waiting for 4.3 to release by apple before they release the unlock. So it's only my guess at this time.

Well, I think I need to unlock it. Another sale fell through (told me it was factory unlocked..... .... .. wasn't.) Then I went to look into getting it IMEI unlocked (it's on movistar from Spain). well, the iPhone can't be refurbrished for it to work, and this one is! woohoo.
So assuming a BB downgrader will work for 6.15.00 too, I might just have to bite the bullet and update now. Opinions?

6.15.00 does have issues with GPS. I tried it and I could not get out of recovery mode. The phone was under warranty and apple replaced it. After i got my new phone I realized I could have used tinyumbrella to get out of recovery mode. I wish you the best. Do let me know it it works.

If you really need the unlock then go for it... I did on my wifes 3GS, it's been that way for months, not so much problems on the gps issue.. I mean, do you really use the gps on your iPhone? But its really up to you, I would choose to wait.
