Hacktivating an iphone 4? 4.2.1
So i bought an iphone 4 from a 3rd party. Guy says iPhone was shipped from the factory and has never been "activated" with ATT. Now i dont need to unlock it cause its replacing my other iphone 4 and i have a real iphone 4 sim card from ATT. To get into the phone i have to use redsnow because i cant activate it in iTunes since the phone asks for some other person's information (zip code, last 4 digits of SS# ect.) I managed a tethered jailbreak of 4.2.1 but when i pop my SIM in, i get one bar, then after a minute it switches to NO SERVICE. And of course i cant make calls. Ive suspected things like carrier settings not being installed and things like that. But everything ive tried hasnt worked. I can do everything and anything on the phone that doesnt need a signal and its jail broken. Any ideas how i can get this phone up and running so i can use it?

Put it in DFU mode and restore it. After that you should be able to activate it and then re-jailbreak it.

If you hactivate it you won't be able to get signal with a official carrier unless you unlock it. But you cant unlock it since there is no unlock for the baseband you have with 4.2.1 yet. Your only option right now is to try and find out that info iTunes asks for after a restore.

Because you are hactivating. Hactivated phones always have that issue with official carriers unless they are unlocked.
Basically your issue is you have a iPhone that is tied to someone's upgrade policy. Without their info you wont be able to activate it normally.

Contact the seller and see what he can do for you. Since they did claim it wasn't activated and you can't do anything without them

Are you running actual att or prepaid gophone service? If it is gophone you may need to call CS to unlock the sim card for transfer to another phone. Of cousy this is only an assumption. That's basically what I had to do for my gophone service.
