Pwnage Tool Question

I want to preserve my 5.13.04 baseband so I can unlock, so I downloaded PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition, and when I follow this guide:

And I choose this firmware:

ModMyi Forums - Downloads - iPhone 3GS 4.2.1

PwnageTool says the wrong firmware bundle was selected.

What gives?

EDIT: Fixed it! I transfered files between my PC and Mac, and the folder had a folder inside that contained the bundle.. etc etc, got it now

Well now my iPhone won't turn on, and its stuck in DFU mode. I got error 1600 in iTunes when I told it to restore custom 4.2.1 firmware I made with PwnageTool.

But, I'm trying it again with PwnageTool from step 1. However, now I get error 2005 in iTunes

EDIT: Well, at least I got it turn back on Trying again

If I may ask, how does PwnageTool differ from Redsn0w?

Did you use pwnage tool to put the phone in dfu? What version of pwnage tool are you using?

Yes. I am now looking at iTunes saying "Preparing iPhone for restore.." yet it's been a few minutes, and its the progress bar of a candy cane like design.. almost like it's hanging

Can't I use Redsn0w to preserve my baseband?

And pwnage tool gave you the blue successful message? You may want to try using redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to put it into pwned dfu then restore to the custom one.

I am using PwnageTool because I want to preserve my baseband of 5.13.04 before running Greenpoison and upgrading to 4.2.1

Can Redsn0w accomplish the same thing as PwnageTool? I have both PC and Mac, if that matters.

I am only telling you to use the option in redsnow to enter pwned dfu. Without using either pwnage tool or redsnow to enter pwned dfu then you will not be able to restore to the custom firmware in itunes and will keep getting that 16XX error.

You may also want to try rebooting your computer and trying again.

I got it working. I am now at emergency call. I did choose Activate the Phone in PwnageTool, but I think I should use Sn0wbreeze instead to hackivate it

snowbreeze doesnt work on 4.2.1. You need to use redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to install cydia. That will hacktivate it for you.

OK, I am cool. I got my iPhone 3GS loaded up, iOS 4.2.1 and baseband 5.13.04

I can now proceed with Greenpoison and my baseband will be preserved, correct?

yup. If you have new bootrom and you want to untether greenpoison should work fine for you.

Yes. When redsnow asked you if you have a new model or old model 3GS what did you answer? Are you able to open cydia without booting thethered?

I have old bootrom. I haven't tried powering off my device yet.

If you have old bootrom then you dont need greenpoison. Can you open cydia?
