Default iphone 3gs unlock - what do you recommend?

    Phone:
    3GS
    firmware (05.11.07)
    IOS 3.1.2.
    359.3.2 (new bootrom)
never been jailbroken or unlocked prior.

I want to unlock it to any version of IOS 4.1, I have read many tutorials and I am still confused. This is what I am attempting so far:

Step 1: Make custom 4.1 ipsw with pwnage 4.1.3 tool and iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.

Step 2: Enter in DFU mode and get iTunes to install.

Step 3: itunes says it cant restore because it is not eligible.

So what am I doing wrong.

    Thanks!!!!

you cannot restore to a custom 4.1 ipsw unless you have SHSH. You can create a custom 4.2.1 and go to that instead. You will have to run redsn0w after the custom 4.2.1 to JB it.

I tried 4.2.1 before 4.1 and got the same message. That's why I tried 4.1. I will try again tonite.

Since 4.2.1 is current firmware signed by apple, you cannot get that message unless your host file is messed up or you running tiny umbrella.

Thanks, it worked! MMS and Tzones data plan worked off the bat. If not for your post I would still be trying to update to 4.1 . Not sure why 4.2.1 didn't t take the first time tho.
