3GS with version 3.0 and 4.26.08 Need to upgrade to 4.1 Please help

I have been up for 5 hrs trying to do this.
I have a 3GS on the 3.0 software still with 4.26.08 firmware
I need 4.1 (8B117) with 6.15.00 firmware.
I have downloaded the 4.1 and went to itunes and tried installing on the phone thru the restore Control and hit restore. It trys loading the software then comes back and says itunes wont install because its not compatible. Do I have to install something else. I have cydia and the phone is unlocked to Tmobile.
Please help me!

First thing is you do not need 6.15 baseband, in fact that is the last thing you need. You can update to 4.1 and keep your 4.26 baseband you can also update to 4.2.1 and keep the 4.26 baseband.

To update to 4.1 you need SHSH to go to 4.2.1 you do not.

You need to use pwnage tool. If you are going to 4.1 you can use pwnage tool out of the box. If you want to go to 4.2.1 you have to modify pwnage tool by dropping a 4.2.1 bundle in pwnage tool before creating the Custom firmware.

Let me know what you have on your phone right now after what you have done and i will help you. Also do you have a MAC?

To find out what SHSH you have either look at the top of Cydia or download Tiny Umbrella and select "save SHSH" without starting TSS server to save your SHSH. It will go to cydia to try and recover what you have previously saved and give you a report of what is there.

You are very luckly that the update to 4.1 failed if you had been successful it would have updated your baseband to 5.14 which would not be good for you.

Great thanks. I am downloading the shsh right now.
I got the phone to 3.1 now its not reading my t mobile sim card. I do have a 6 mo old imac I am using. I will put 4.1 or 4.2 on the phone what ever is easy. I just want it so I can run it off tmobile like it did before I put the 3.1 on it. When I open Cydia it gives me tons of error codes and there are not any pkgs installed?

What baseband do you have on the phone now. Do you still have 4.26.

05.14.02 is the baseband now with 4.1 (8b117)
i am screwed. All runs good other than it wont recognize my tmobile sim now and wont play youtube

If u must have the unlock u only have one option now and that is to use Redsn0w to put iPad base band. Read instructions first. Your problem is u do first and then ask questions after.
