I have a 3g I had to install the 6.15 baseband on and hated the updated firmware on. So I downgraded the firmware to 3.1.3 I've used spirit, jailbreak and etc to jailbreak and then unlock. However it won't show the sim card. I'm guessing I need to jailbreak using redsnow instead of these tools but I'm not sure which one to use since its a 3g. Modern thought tells me to use 9.4 because thats what 3g's are supposed to use. But then its got the new baseband on it so that makes me think I should use 9.6 to jailbreak. Someone please clarify this for me.
nobody ehh well that makes me feel less stupid so thats good.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have a 3G that was on 4.2.1 and 5.15bb. I read that it must be upgraded to 6.15 to jailbreak and unlock, so I did using redsn0w. But, during that process my iphone went into recovery mode. I read again and downgraded to 3.1.3, but 6.15 stays. Is there a way to go back to 4.2.1 or no and if yes, how do I do it? Thanks in advance!
Thank you x98car! Do you know is there a specific connector in iphone 3g that is responsible for wireless/bluetooth function? This 3g iphone can't get wireless networks list no matter what I tried. I tried different software reloads and upgrades, reset networking ... Router and wireless settings at home is not an issue because all other devices work fine. Once again thank you for all your help and support!
x98car, I had tried to update (not restore) to 4.2.1 and, just like you said, I got 1015. I tried to clear it with Tiny umbrella but it doesn't clear it and the phone stays in recovery mode. Is there something else I can try?
if you have 6.15 bb you cannot install official 4.2.1 firmware..you will get error 1015 but you will not be able to kick it out of recovery because tinyumbrella doesn't work with 4.2.1
you can install 4.1 and kick it out of recovery when it's time to do it or install a custom 4.2.1 (google it)
If done correctly by using the update button instead of the restore button tiny umbrella can actually exit recovery for a device getting that 1015 error from 4.2.1. It will not work if it is a restore though. In that case you will need a custom 4.2.1 made with pwnage tool that has no baseband update in it.
Edit: Just doing some experimenting and it will not work going from 3.1.3. But will from 4.1. So if you cant get hold of a custom firmware then restore to 4.1 (you will need 4.1 SHSH). When you get 1015 error use tiny umbrella to exit recovery. Then update (not restore) to 4.2.1. You will get the 1015 error again, use tiny umbrella to exit recovery.
I am doing this process now on a test iphone I have and will report back if it does in fact work.
Yup. Works after going to 4.0 or 4.1 and updating to 4.2.1 without needing a custom firmware.
