You need to make a custom firmware using Sn0wbreeze and set Baseband Preservation mode.

How to update an iPhone while preserving the baseband
1) Download PwnageTool 4.2 if your on a Mac from Here
OR
Download Sn0wbreeze if you are on Windows from Here
2) Download the 4.2.1 firmware from Here
3) Open whichever program you downloaded and browse and select the firmware that you just downloaded.
4) Select Baseband Preservation Mode and create a custom firmware.
5) Plug your iPhone into the computer and put it into DFU Mode, your screen should be black and should NOT have the recovery mode logo on it.
6) iTunes will recognize your iPhone as in recovery mode and then restore your iPhone with the 4.2.1 Custom firmware you just created.
Once the restore is done your baseband should have stayed the same.
7) Unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2 in Cydia.
