Default Black screen and then no service

    Hi everyone,

I'm making this thread because I can't find a solution for my problem. I searched this site, macrumors, and pretty much every google search-related site looking for a solution but so far nothing comes up.

    The story:

I own a bought-from-a-friend iPhone 3G, jailbroken & unlocked, which used to work for every carrier available in my country, Argentina.

Last sunday night I plugged it in my PC for a charge and, after Windows recognised and "installed" the hardware, I thougt about making a backup of the photos. Windows started to copy them and suddenly the phone's screen goes black. I had a hard time waking it up, I tried with the power button, the home button, both of them, etc. The silver apple logo appeared and that was it, the phone did nothing else but to show the starting logo.

After many tries, it turns on, but NO SERVICE from the carrier. I took out the SIM card, put it back on but nothing. I tried with other carrier's SIM (a Personal one) and it worked perfectly. Then I tried my old SIM (a Movistar carrier one) in a common Movistar phone and nothing, the SIM doesn't work. The next test was a different Movistar SIM in the iPhone. NO SERVICE again, but this SIM card does work in common Movistar phones.

Since also Cydia was giving me a hard time (a repository issue which never downloaded correctly), I decided to restore and re do the jailbreak & unlock process, thinking that it might help, like a fresh start.

I downloaed the firmware from this site according to my version and restored the phone from the file in my hard disk with iTunes. Once restored, the iPhone wouldn't take any SIM card.

I used blackra1n to jailbreak and I could use the phone again, but without any carrier service. Then I installed blacksn0w from the blackra1n app in the iPhone, and the Personal SIM started to work again, but the Movistar one still has no service.

Also cydia doesn't work, I have again a repository issue. I think it's the same repository I had trouble with since I had the phone, something named like "smxy", and presents the error NODATA1, NODATA2. Cydia "reloads data" and that's it, no Cydia for me. Before this "no service" problem, what I tried to do was entering the phone system (via iFunbox), deleted the files in certain folder (can't remeber which one), and Cydia started from zero, and began downloading repositories. The problem is that every time that repository started to donwload, an error ocurred (always the same error) and that was the end of the application. I deleted the files again, cydia started again, the repo downloaded corrupted data again... I think you can see the picture.

    This is my phone's data:

    Model: 3G
    Firmware: 3.1.2
    Baseband: 05.11.07
When Cydia used to work, I think I did the "make my life easier" thing, but I can't really remember

What I need is to unlock my phone so I can use it with a Movistar SIM card (which is my current number, and my work pays the bill for me so I can't choose the carrier), and to make Cydia work.

Thanks a lot for you time and patience.

    Fede.
