3GS form 04.26.08 3.1.3 bricked to 4.xx unlocked
Hi Guys!
I have a 3GS phone in 3.1.3 which is in an instable state ( No Cydia, no unlock anymore), after having used Snowbreeze (to upgrade from a 3.0 JB/unlock version)
Which are my best options to have a working & unlocked phone again? can I upgrade to an unlocked 4.xx and how?
My config:
- iPhone 3GS,
- FW 3.1.3,
- Baseband 04.26.08,
- old BootROM
- No SHSHs saved since Cydia not available anymore.
I have both Windows & Mac to cook any custom FW
Thanks in advance for your help!

Download tiny umbrella to see what SHSH you have.

Done.
SHSH saved: Iphone3GS 4.2.1(8C148a)
Where exactly is it saved? On my computer or a remote server?
Thank you for helping me with the next steps...

They save on your computer and on cydia's server.
If that is the only SHSH you have then if you try and restore you will be forced to 4.2.1. Do you have a Mac?

Ok, then you can make a custom 4.2.1 without the baseband update in it using pwnage tool 4.1.3. Guide here: [How To] Use Pwnage Tool to make a custom firmware

Thanks, I'll follow instructions.
Just to be sure: I will be able to unlock and it will be untethered, right?

I read some of the tutorials. My understanding is :
1) Phone is disconnected from Computer
2) Download official 3GS 4.2.1 ispw (target FW)
3) Download 4.1.3 Pwnage Tool for Mac
4) Download Firmware Bundle 4.2.1 and copy it into Pwnage Tool
>> I understand that I don't need to download Ipad 3.2.2 FW since I have an old boot rom and I don'r neet to upgrade my Baseband (4.26.08)
7) Launch Pwnage Tool and follow steps as described in your tutorial here [How To] Use Pwnage Tool to make a custom firmware
8) Check option for: Activate the phone (in order to unlock with unofficial sim)
9) Build
10) reconnect Phone is DFU
11) Restore the custom ispw through Itunes
Then, I'm not really sure what to do... Will I have Cydia already installed? Do I need to download and run redshow?
Thanks in advance!
to actually jailbreak after you’ve restored with the help of that bundle, please use redsn0w

Hi,
did everything, had a problem during DFU mode while booting with Redsnow... the flash process stopped in the mddle... I did a back and next on the redsnow window, press Power button... the flash process finished fron where it stopped...
Everthing was Ok, I went on Cydia to Install ultrasnow, I reboot manually with the power button: No Carrier detected. I rebooted a couple of times, without any effect
Could you please help me to solve this problem?

What is your baseband?

I checked in the menu "about":
the carrier name is there, I am in 4.2.1, but the baseband is now 05.15.04! How come the baseband has been modified? I thought this Pwnage was allowing me to stay in 4.28.06...
What can I do now to unlock the phone?
thx

Did you shift restore to the custom one or the regular one? If you had restored to the custom one your baseband would not have been updated. Only way to unlock now is to use redsnow to update to the ipad baseband.

I followed instruction of the Tutorial:
1) Shift Restore Custom ISPW through Itunes
2) Launch Redsnow, use the official Apple ISPW, and clik on NO for old bootrom : "2: Run redsnow 0.9.6rc8 and browse for a regular (not custom) 4.2.1 firmware, say yes to the new model question if you have new bootrom or no if you have old bootrom. "
So now my baseband has been upgraded, what about my bootrom, it is still the same old one?
Which tutorial I should follow now for a redsnow JB with Ipad baseband? Do I have to use the SHSH?
Thanks

Bootrom version will not charge , Boot means it gives instruction to trigger the first initialization Rom means read only memory , it is burned in and cannot be changed unless you reburn it again.
When you run redsnow there is an option iPad BB, choose that if you have a non unlockable BB

You must have restored to the regular one by mistake. There is no way the custom one would have updated your baseband to 5.15.04.
To update your baseband run redsnow 0.9.6rc8
browse for regular 4.2.1 firmware.
Say no to new model question
Choose to install cydia (unless you have cydia already) and the iPad baseband.
Follow instructions for entering dfu.
