Guys im having the hardest time doing this, i have read all of the tutorials, im not very good with technology and stuff, so if you guys could help me out, i have an iphone 2g. with 3.1.3, and im using windows 7, if some one could help me this would be much appreciated

Jailbreak and unlock, i only have a telus sim card,

Download stock 3.1.2 ipsw from the downloads section here on MMi.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.4

Plug your phone in, open Redsn0w, browse to the 3.1.2 ipsw. (yes 3.1.2, even though you're on 3.1.3, that is the fw redsn0w recognizes).

Select when prompted Cydia and Unlock.

Then proceed to follow the instructions to put your phone into DFU mode.

Then it should jb and unlock fine.

for some reason when i save it to my desktop and i go there through the redsnow browse button no files are there,

Make sure the firmware is in .ipsw format

it only gives me the option to save in a .zip file or all files

Either download it again with firefox or chrome, or rename the file to .ipsw.

It worked, i unlocked but it wont get service for my telus sim card

Reboot the phone and wait 10-30 minutes for it to pick up signal

i turned it on and off, and in the carrier settings it only says rogers and automatic, im with telus, so just wait it out? and if that doesnt work then what?

Like I said, reboot and wait. Don't select a carrier or anything. If it doesn't work, restore and do it over.
