Wierd Situation
About 2 months ago I upgraded to 4.1 without using tinyumbrella and that put my baseband onto the 5.14.02 version which locked my phone. I then downgraded back to 3.1.3 (whilist retaining 5.14.02) and the phone was unlocked again. Today I did a restore to a fresh 3.1.3 state (and restored from a backup made the night before) but the phone became locked again.
Can anybody tell me whats going on? I do not want to upgrade to the 6.15 ipad baseband as there are too many draw backs.
Thanks,
Mech.

EDIT:
I reread the above post and that made little sense to even myself. Happens when you try to communicate at 3 in the morning...
Anyways...
About 2 months ago I was on the 3.1.3 firmware (baseband version unknown) and the phone was unlocked with ultrasn0w. I then upgraded with a factory 4.1 ipsw which put my baseband onto 5.14.02. This caused my phone to be locked(no signal with my sim card).
I then downgraded back to 3.1.3 (the 5.14.02 baseband did not downgrade however) and my phone became unlocked again. It was working great until last night when I decided to do a restore to a factory 3.1.3 ipsw. Now my phone appears to be locked again.
I know normally the 5.14.02 baseband isn't unlockable but is there anything I can do to get back to the state I was in before? I do not think using the ipad baseband is a good solution either.
The iPhone is locked to Fido, but I am using ChatR. It is an 8Gb 3G unit.Last edited by mechanical; 01-16-2011 at 07:01 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Ultrasnow will not work on that baseband. Kind of confused to how you were saying you had it working on that before.

I wonder if it is a factory unlocked one then.

Not necessarily true. How did you activate the last time you restored to 3.1.3?

I'm not sure if I this is 100% correct but I don't think I needed to activate last time. Also if it makes a difference, I believe I used spirit last time to jailbreak. I am using redsn0w this time around.
Thing is this time it asked me to activate and it failed because I had my chatr sim card in this unit. So I replaced it with a fido sim card and it activated. I then placed my chatr sim into the unit and it gives me an invalid sim message.
Thanks for your help by the way.
EDIT: I'm going to try my luck and jailbreak with spiritLast edited by mechanical; 01-16-2011 at 09:30 AM.

Ya, try spirit. redsnow may have been hactivating for you which if it is factory unlocked will cause you not to get signal. Spirit doesnt do this. Or you can use jailbreakme.com, very similar to spirit and even easier to use.

That makes sense and is worth a shot. Its wierd though, I fairly certain this phone is not factory unlocked since I got it through fido. Very wierd phenomenon indeed.
I will keep you posted.
Ok so I tried using spirit. It won't work until I activate the iphone. The problem is, I can't activate since itunes gives me the invalid sim message. I have never seen this message before in the past. I don't understand what is going on.
I think the problem is itunes did not activate the phone before but is requiring activation now. Is there anyway to bypass this?
Any more suggestions?Last edited by mechanical; 01-16-2011 at 10:17 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

If itunes is giving you that message with your sim in then it is not factory unlocked so that rules that out. With that baseband you have, to unlock your only option is the ipad baseband unfortunately. Unless you have a 5.8 bootloader iPhone 3G, those can downgrade baseband.
