May have bricked my 3GS or hardware failure Please help :$
Hi Guys,
So my iPhone 3GS was running fine on 4.0.1 jailbroken using the exploit that was out a while ago:
jailbreakme.com
So I was using my GPS app and I lost reception, it didn't come back so I restarted my phone only to have the iPod cable/iTunes logo appear and say i need to restore the phone!
So i tried to load the old firmware i had downloaded... no go
I then updated it to the latest firmware and the thing still wont work.
Sooo i tried to jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 and iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore
That didnt work either.
I followed instructions to use limera1n and got the frikkin thing unlocked but I had no wifi (greyed out) no bluetooth which meant i couldn't then put cydia on and get ultrasn0w
so after trying a few other different things im still stuck in the same boat.
Device info:
3GS with old style boot rom (better one?) Model: MC133X
- current firmware: iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore
- Modem Firmware: doesnt show me any
- No IMEI and NO ICCID!
So did I screw myself by restoring with the latest release for the phone should I now upgrade my baseband to the ipad one? and if so will I be able to use GPS?
Any help is really appreciated thanks in advance for you time.
Let me know if you need any other info

Something definitely went wrong with you iPhone. I don't think MC133X is a proper model... Try DFU restoring to another custom 4.0.1. I believe the BB didn't flash properly so your radios are off; either that or one of the flex cables inside the device is damaged.(in which case you should restore to stock firmware and take it to the Apple Store) Also make sure you're not running anything else in the background on your computer (Wi-Fi sync client, Airmouse, iTap, etc.)

Hi guys,
@westc0ast
Yea i updated to the latest but it still told me i needed to restore after that (just had the ipod cable and itunes logo. So i went back to an older version... This may have been my downfall...
No I didnt back up my shsh blobs because when I first jailbreak there was no info about that and then the phone as I said yesturday lost reception and said I had to restore so when this happened i got tiny unbrella and tried to do it while the phone was inaccessible but it wouldn't work.
@King Shifty Where can i get the custome restore file? I think you right about the phone being damaged from the research ive done.
Failing the custome restore file would updating to the latest software again and then upgrading the baseband to ipad version maybe work?

Download the 4.1.3 pwnagetool from the dev team blog and create a custom firmware with that. If you don't have a mac, find a friend or relative with a mac and make the firmware. Use 4.2.1. You won't have to worry about shsh blobs because Apple is still officially signing it. Do a DFU restore in iTunes.
Hope this helps

Hi guys i downloaded pwnagetool 4.2.1 because thats all they have, is this the correct site: Dev-Team Blog - 20102010 event ?
Shifty can you provide a link for 4.1.3?
So with 4.2.1 it would only recognize iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore...
tried this and no luck
any further help would be awesome thanks for your time so far.

Yes i used 4.2.1 pwnagetool and it only let me use the iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore instead of 1.4.2 (latest restore)
it all worked and the phone is accessable but still no wifi no bluetooth no modem firware info etc. :$
do you need other info?
Thanks for the follow up

I think that if you didn't back up your shsh blobs there is no way to restore to anything other than the latest (4.2.1). Other than 3.1.3 or 3.1.2. With those you can just kick it out of restore with tinyumbrella. Try a stock 3.1.3 use tiny umbrella to kick out of restore when iTunes fineshes. Then use blackra1n with a stock 3.1.2. To jb
P. S. STAY AWAY FROM 6.15 BASEBAND!!!!!
Nothing other than 4.2.1 or somthing in the 3.*.* will work without shsh blobs backed up.Last edited by westc0ast; 01-16-2011 at 10:14 AM.

Sorry it took a while to reply back. If you'd still like to try my method the 4.1.3 pwnagetool can be downloaded from: http://ibloo.net/PwnageTool_4.1.3_Unlock_Edition.dmg

Old bootrom doesn't mean you can go up and down firmware revisions. The SHSH method is a hardware requirement for ALL iPhone 3GSs and later. Apple implemented a "soft" SHSH for iPhone 3Gs after 4.0. That's why Cydia has blobs even for iPhone 3Gs.

I'm having the same issue with the greyed out baseband etc . I have tried custom firmwares and jailbreaking with limerain .
I'm doing this for a friend, he apparently bricked the phone by upgrading it to 4.2.1 after it was jailbroken at 3.1.3 using jailbreakme .
no sh blobs on file .
I'm getting error 1002 when restoring .
Is the phone trash now ?
