custom firmware for restore

I bought an unlocked 4.1 iphone 4. It is giving me some troubles. How and what do I need to restore this phone? Where do i get custom firmware?

Look at the front page of cydia, if it says 4.1 shsh blob, then you can restore to stock 4.1 using Tss Server to preserve your baseband.

Ok I have shsh on file for many iOS. I have only done this once before. Do I need to use the same software that was used before to Jb/UL? How do I restore and keep all apps?

Yes, if you want to do a restore again. Same thing, run tss server and restore to stock 4.1, error 1004 will pop up, use exit recovery to kick it out.
Jailbreak with Limera1n again.

Can you give me a simple step by step as I do not want to screw anything up. What is tss server? Please give me a basic step by step as if it was the first time I picked up a phone.

He is not on 6.15 he has an IP4.

Cydia says I have SHSH: IOS 4.0.1 , 4.0.2 , 4.1 , 4.2.1 , 4.2b3(what is this one?)

Phone is having some issues and I need to restore to try and get it to work Properly. Can someone Please give me a step by step on how to restore this phone and preserve all apps, contacts (not in itunes yet)and of course the JB/UL. I am on Tmobile in US.

Contacts: in iTunes in info tab, back up to 3rd party of your choice

Apps: right-click device and transfer purchases in iTunes and then sync

Music: sync to iTunes, if they're already in your library resync after restore

Photos: manual back up to computer

Restoring: download TinyUmbrella and run TSS server

Open iTunes and shift+restore to stock 4.1 ipsw (felixbruns.de has these firmwares)

Error 1014 will occur, use TinyUmbrella to exit recovery

Jailbreak as normal after phone boots up.
