Can this phone be unlocked?

My wife lost her phone & I had to buy her a new one. It's a 3Gs on 4.2.1 with modem firmware 5.15.04. I'm fairly certain there are no shsh blobs backed up. Is there ANY way to unlock it?

You will have to update it to the iPad baseband which is not really recommended based on the gps breaking and battery problems if not properly activated.

I have another 3Gs which was unlocked using iPad baseband and it has no gps or battery issues, but the guy who unlocked it for me said he couldn't do the other one if there are no shsh blobs.

You should be able to upgrade it to the ipad baseband then. Do you know how?
