Need Unlock Fido 3GS 4.1 with 5.14.02

Hello All

Could anyone help to guide how to unlock as I have already jailbreak using limera1n and so far there is no issue with the phone!!!!!

I live in Canada and using Fido as the official carrier for the iPhone but want to switch to Chatr Wireless!

Please help to guide me guys!!!!

Hey

You will have to use the iPad Baseband!!!

You'll need to use redsn0w, which can be downloaded from redsn0w.com !

There is a good bunch of information on that site!!!!!!!

You should read though it all, and you should have a solid understanding, if you don't just post back here!!!!!!

But when the iPad BB will be installed, I will loose my apps, contacts and other stuff too??

I have been to a local unlocking shop just to make sure and the guy said he can unlock 3GS any firmware and I won't loose anything on it!!!!

This is the only confusion I have please adv me!

If you use redsn0w you won't lose any info!!!

But just to be on the safe side, go into the info tab in iTunes, and backup all your info to your computer. There is a 2% chance something can go wrong, it's best to be always prepared!!!!

So here is the update...

What I have understand from dev team website is that to unlock an IPhone 3GS I would need

1-redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc8
2-iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore (IPSW to get the update for bb 06.15.00)

I have watched the video tutorial for it also where I found that to open redsn0w and select the IPSW 4.2.1 then from the options ONLY TO SELECT "UPDATE IPAD BASEBAND" because I have done the jailbreak portion before with Limera1n and cydia is installed!

Also on the video tutorial I have noticed comments "IF YOU ARE JAILBROKEN ON 4.1 THEN DO NOT NEED TO UPDATE!!!
JUST SELECT 4.1 IN REDSNOW AND DO NOT INSTALL CYDIA ON THE JAILBREAK ONLY SELECT THE UNLOCK"

What does mean "JUST SELECT 4.1 IN REDSNOW"

Do I have to use the IPSW 4.1 instead of 4.2.1 or something else, please guide me and let me know if still missing any other step to follow the unlock!

Yup!!!

Since your on 4.1, do exactly what you were doing, but just download and select the 4.1 ipsw, instead of the 4.2.1!!!

You DO NOT want to update to 4.2.1 at this moment, you will be forced to be tethered, which will be a pita!!!!

You've got everything right, just replace
2-iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore
with
2-iPhone2,1_4.1_8C148a_Restore

And you'll be good to go!!!!

oh, you mean once the unlock is done, my phone will be TETHERED means every time if power goes down or when phone will require a reboot it has to be connect to a pc for up and running again????

No no, if you update to 4.2.1 it will be tethered.

If you stay on 4.1 it will be normal (untethered)

I have read GPS non functional after unlocking on 6.15.00, what about it and if any step to get rid of it???

it's hit or miss, I've personally unlocked about 2 dozen phones and have had no issues with the gps, but some people do. It's a known issue, and the dev team is working on it. For more complete information about it, search on here, or read the comments on the dev team blog
