    Default Unlocking help on 4.2.1

I'm currently running on an 3GS unjailbroken 4.2.1, but i'll be traveling abroad (back and forth from the US to another country) soon and need to jb/unlock. My question is if i unlock my phone using redsnow on the ipad baseband i know it will work internationally but will it also work when i return to the US every 2 months and stick in my contracted ATT SIM?

    Thanks in advance!

Sure, Just remove Ultrasnow when you're on AT&T and it's back to normal. Jb'd or not-jb'd has nothing to do with unlock.

Sorry I've never jailbroken or unlocked before....so do you think i should jailbreak it in the US then unlock it when I have the other countries Sim handy. Then when i get back to the states i delete ultrasnow and then reinsert the ATT SIM and it should work fine??

^In order to install Ultras0w you need Cydia. Cydia comes with/requires a jailbreak. I would jb now, install ultrasnow and SBSettings, use a SBSettings toggle (additional cydia package) to disable ultrasn0w when in the US, and make sure everything is working well prior to your trip.

Note: Since you're on 4.2.1, redsn0w can install the iPad BB, jb, and install Cydia all in one shot. Because you have an authorized SIM, you should not have issues with activation -- however the GPS unit might not work with the iPad BB.

{IMPORTANT} if your 3GS is a NEW bootrom (probably) you will be tethered. This requires a computer and redsn0w every time the phone boots. This can be a real issue for many.

    thank you so much!
Yesterday I was successfully able to jailbreak and unlock my phone on 4.1 but after everything was installed I lost my connection to AT&T and it just said 'searching' so i had to restore and it automatically upgraded to 4.2.1

I'm assuming this happened because I had my ATT sim still in my phone when i unlocked and didn't disable ultrasn0w? I just hope the same thing won't happen again because I read that its impossible to restore once you jb a phone running on 4.2.1..

Restore back to Apple factory default --- Yes. But load same or new iOS? Not true. After the iPad BB is installed, it is a bit more difficult -- not impossible! A custom firmware does the trick
