Guess this has been posted a million times but.... I have a new iphone 4 with 4.2.1 firmware. What is the best unlock and jailbreak. I haven't done this for a couple of yearrs. I used cydia on my iphone 2.

There is no unlock for that yet. You can jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.6rc8 but it is tethered.

Thanks, is it possible to load it with an earlier version of firmware to get around the tether issue?

Only if you have SHSH for previous firmware which you probably dont since it is new
