HELP! iPhone 3GS w/ Old bootrom - i0S4.2.1 Modem firmware 4.26
I have an iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom that i have used Pwnage 4.1.3 to update to iOS4.2.1 and keep my 4.26 baseband. (I need unlock). It was never jailbroken before when I got it and it was on 3.0 so it went 3.0 ---> 4.2.1 with no SHSH saved.
It will load up the "pwn'd" 4.2.1 fine but cydia will not open. It keeps crashing. the ipsw was build using "expert mode"
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Are you sure you have old bootrom? Nevermind scratch that, if you got it on 3.0 then ya its old bootrom
You arent using any other features in pwnage tool are you?Last edited by Simon; 01-06-2011 at 12:14 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

well 4.1.3 made me add that "update" bundle so it would support 4.2.1 and i used expert mode. It wont let me use simple mode.

You added the bundle from update 3 on the dev team blog right?
Have you tried setting it up as new after the restore instead of restoring from backup?Last edited by Simon; 01-06-2011 at 01:09 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

created the restore. restored with custom ipsw. then ran redsnow it worked and now it is stuck on the apple black boot screen.
used redsnows boot tethered option to reboot and it worked (well booted into 4.2.1) Got on cydia and it loaded now. Just did the complete upgrade and "reboot" to see if it would boot w/o the tether option correctly now.Last edited by mkozak; 01-06-2011 at 01:57 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

You said no to the question about new model right? What option did you choose in cydia and what firmware did you point redsnow to?
You shouldnt have to use that boot tethered option on a old bootrom 3GSLast edited by Simon; 01-06-2011 at 01:59 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

no, doesnt sound right at all. What version of redsnow are you using?

What I did was
1. Create Custom 4.2.1 using expert mode (unchecked activate phone)
2. Restore in itunes using custom firmware (did not activate)
3. Ran redsnow but pointing to the regular 4.2.1 firmware file from apple.
4. let redsnow run
then it reboot into the spinning wheel of death so i used the just boot option in redsnow to boot tethered and it booted to 4.2.1 then i updated all "complete upgrade" in cydia and reboot again it again gave me the pinwheel of death so i redid tetherd boot adn it worked again

Something has gone screwy there, you shouldnt be booting tethered on a old bootrom. You should use the latest redsnow that isnt a beta (redsnow 0.9.6rc8).
What option are you choosing in redsnow?Last edited by Simon; 01-06-2011 at 05:02 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Problem Solved I think. Thanks!!!Last edited by mkozak; 01-06-2011 at 05:21 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
